I have a 90 240 with a blacktop SR swapped in. the transmission went bad so i pulled the engine out and replaced the tranny and the starter. when i put the engine back in it wouldn't start. it wouldn't even crank. i thought it might be the starter so i put my friends in and it started right up. so i got a new starter and now it won't start again. is there something special you have to do to new starters or am i just missing something?

make sure the main fat power wire is connected properly and the signal lead (small wire) is plugged in all the way and making good contact.

Make sure your using a manual starter or auto starter depending what you have, there is a difference.

make surre there is no corrosion on the engine block, as it will casue a high resistance and the starter will not crank. it is weird, however, that you buddies starter worked. take it to autozone and have then test it.

how do you know if you have an auto or manual starter?

The auto starter has a nose cone over the gear, the manual doesn't.

I'm having the same problem with my SR20. I bought a new starter from enjuju put it in and all I get is a clicking sound. I don't get it.
