which car is the best drift car you've driven?

My choise is the FC. it handles really good, got decent power even NA.

KA S13 drifts good, but it dies at higher RPM.

Corolla needs more power, parts are hard to find.

Horse-power to weight ratio makes the HachiRoku the best. Strong engine perfect weight distribution. ...but butt ugly.:)

If you ask around the rotary community they'll say that the FC sucks for drifting ^_^

My pic would be a S13 coupe... engine doesnt really matter...

i dont think the parts are hard to find, there just getting expensive

well for variety of parts, cost, and preformence i would say the s13

I have both S14MC and a RPS13.
Personally I think the S13 is a little more nimble. The S14 is great also, so this is a hard choice

s13 with bold tires, well any car that is lightweight, or heavy car with lots of power.

elevator
08-15-2003, 08:34 AM
Bald tires really AREN'T the best for drifting. Why do you think they used slicks at the drags and at NASCAR? TRACTION! Bald tires are only really good for drifting if the track is wet. The reason many drifters use bald tires is that most are broke and cant afford to buy the tires that they go through os a good day. Jr goes through 10 - 12 tires a day at the track. The don't start out bald and they usually are never really smooth as the track tears them up pretty bad rather than wearing them smooth. The best tires are generally just bad enough that you wouldn't buy them for dailly driving but good enough that they are safe. He spends a ton of time at the base auto hobby shop and gets peoples thrown pout tires there. Otherwise he would rarely drift as tire are too fricking big of an expense otherwise.

The TRULY classic drift cars are the AE86 Hachiroku and the Sileighty. The sileighty came into existance as drift cars.http://www.importfanatix.com/Forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=23965

i say S12 w/ the VG30E. what a hot little car!! haha the engine is silky-smooth for an old school V6, and its got plenty of torque throughout the whole useable rev range. it has similar weight to the S13 but with more standard HP and plenty of torque on tap, it breaks loose at little more easily. it just doesnt have as sophisticated a suspension (esp. in the rear) as an S13/14. :aw:

I'm gonna say FD's..Fairly light, super agile, and good power..The best of all worlds.

s13/s14 is the most well balanced.. front to rear distrubution , even though its long the car still weighs less

hp/weight for an NA 86 is less than great. do the math.
a turbo car can easily even that gap with less parts/$$

01-28-2004, 03:38 PM
talking to a lot of people at drift events and a few professional drifters i would rank it like this:
FD (hate to admit it)
s15 (more solid than s13/14)
350z (a bit heavy)
s14 (more solid than s13 not as good as s15. ask "society mike" from FA)
s13
FC (good car but it wants to grip. needs extensive suspension work. i know a few guys who drifted them and have since moved on. my little brother has one. he agrees)
86 (yeah, it's light, but needs WAY more power and a butt load of suspension parts. nothing special as near as i can figure. an old favorite among the older japanese drivers. popular in the US due to the bandwagon effect)

other cars...

yeah seriously, I go out a drift shcool buses all the time! what a rush :jerkit:

the truth is there are some cars that are better to start out with in order to build a good driver than others and many "PRO" drifters have their favorites, like tanaguchi and the s series and ueo and the corrolla these guys just have their own personal favorties. thats all, of course the driver is the key but whats the key getting plugged into. Sure i can say i am a mercenary but what kind of weapons do I have access to and which ones do I do battle with the best? 7.62 X 39, or .223 ? ya know :bite:

FCs dont really need extensive suspension work.. just rear toe-steer eliminators. i used to have one. they drift alright, but cant hang with the toe. great grip cars

after driving the fc, a freinds corolla and my s13.. the s13s tail comes out the easiest (this is a stock-form comparison) but anything can be tweaked with suspension and more power.. balance, however, is the key.

The said, " best drift car", would be any car you yourself deem to be the best. To say best would obviously state a matter of opinion. Many will have different opinions and some will almost obliterate you if you don't agree with them. They are prolly dem(s) and want to control your opinions and will not settle for less. Open minded people will stay and let others speak their mind instead of opressing them...

So my choice is whatever I have seen, heard, driven, etc. that do what the title suggests.

Please tell me you're joking, the 240Z is incredibly difficult to drift and takes a good deal of mods to work well. :tweak:

Chernobyl
06-12-2004, 04:13 PM
And you would know because you have driven one?

240z isnt that hard to drift. I've owned one, I've drifted it... no big deal. Harder than S14, but not INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT.

iyceman
06-13-2004, 06:58 AM
Yes, I HAVE driven one jack-ass. I haven't owned one, granted, but my friend has had 5 so far, and he said that the chassis design wasn't very condusive to any sort of over-steer short of a full throttle powerslide. To me that means it isn't that great for drifting, thus making it NOT the best car for drifting.

S13SilviaGirl
06-13-2004, 12:40 PM
hmmmm, I have to say an s13 coupe is the best. Why? Because I like em! HAHAHA In all seriousness, I love my SR coupe and it handles really well. Btwn my coupe and Kevins FB I like the coupe much better. But it is all a matter of personal preference. Like Cefiro said....cefiros (confused look hahaha) kick ass at drifting too if you know how to handle them, the have a lot of body roll and what not, but it dosnt mean that they can't be manipulated into a nicely pulled off drift. That statment goes for any car. You know how to drive it and you can make it do anything you want.

I have to admit that the S13 is a great chasis. Ive driven one for a year and its seen more than its fair share of touge/drift time. Ive also drivin a fe FCs. the fc is a great track car and sticks like glue. the s13 is a bit more like a go-kart with the back end comming out much easier.

Im going to have to say for ease of use/repair/parts sourcing/aftermarket support the s13. HOWEVER im selling my s13 and buying a TII  Its time to be different. Thats what drifting is all about. Be urself. your out there to have fun. Build what you like. Drive what you love. Drift what you brought. Let others do the same and stop flameing.

Why do people insist on saying that you can't drift in a FF? I was actually reading an article the other day, well, actually like a year ago, and this ff civic was in a drift contest in Hawaii, and he beat out most of the other cars. And come to think of it, I think there's a tuner mag out right now with an article about a Japanese FF drifter in it. Just because you do something differently doesn't mean you're not doing it. It's take's more control/work to have controled drifts in a FF, but to say it's not drifting is just plain stupid.(don't worry, I know poeple are gonna flame)
My second car was a 1st gen neon. I got springs for it one day that were stupid stiff, and the back alot more so than the front. After I installed them, the car had a fair amount of oversteer. It was actually really easy for me to initiate drifts in it. Bumpin the brake to take load off the back, and flickin the steering wheel sent it sideways, but controling it was difficult for me. I could make ok drifts though. Anyways, I'm just sayin you can drift in a FF.

nah i have one and its hard to break the rear loose, the car is TOO balanced and handles really well more suited for auto-x or road racing not drifting.. leave that to the corollas and the S-chasis
