What is this sensor, and does it require a gasket? It appears as I am getting an oil leak from it..

Oil Pressure.
When mine developed a leak there, it ended up being a cracked housing.
There is no gasket, just the threads for the sensor to screw in.

Discard and plug. A new one will leak within a year anyway, they all do.

It's a "T" to keep the oil pressure sensor. That's what you have circled.
The sensor is on the end and the T is probably used to feed a gauge or turbo.
If you are leaking from the sensor...Discard and plug. A new one will leak within a year anyway, they all do.
If you are leaking from another part of the T, you'll figure it out eventually.

If I were to plug it, wouldn't that send a CEL?

Exactly. Why would the emissions control system care if you're leaking oil?
CEL = check engine light. Emissions related items only.

Weird that it broke off in the block seeing as how it's threaded into the oil filter bracket and not the block. And since the bracket is easily removed it can also be easily replaced.

Ya just plug it for now Brew. If you feel like replacing it just do it later.
If you don't like that route then replace it with a new one, its an old motor so that will happen to ya

What? English, type it.
You can't use the OE sender to do anything. You can however install any aftermarket sender in it's place as long as the fitting is the same.

Wow mang, where have you been?
Yes, delete it. Your alternator will appreciate the lack of oil pouring into it.
