I actually build SQ systems, you've seen my posts in the 'speaker setup' threads I think. If you're interested in something that actually sounds good, let me know.

Ayo Digital Designs (DD) subwoofers are pretty good..don't really need alot of power to push the subs either.

JL W7's is what my friend chuck had. Those fuckers made me def for a little while. If you want decent for kinda cheap, Alpine is ok.

Hmm I say get a single sub. The right kind can be just as good as two. with the 240's 90 amp charging system a 1000 watt sub is about as much as it is going to produce. And there are a few subs that can do that. Though I doubt you will need that much.

Brands
kicker-roommate has two tens L5's, beat like hell
Memphis-I own these they pound, but could be deeper
Fi btl- heard good things
diamond- heard good things about these
jl- I miss these subs, they got stole

Not to clutter this gem of a thread, but for a vert, a 10 in a fairly large ported box (>1.25 ft) facing back would give much better sound than a 12 facing up. The dominant frequencies of the sub/box/trunk space are all relative, and you want as much space as possible before the first reflection.

I have a Soundstream Reference 10" (old school SQ sub, paper cone and medium size magnet for ultra-quick response) in a ~1.5ft^3 box (not including port space) ported to 38Hz with a huuuuuge port, and it plays virtually flat all the way down to 45Hz or so... given the fact that you pick up a couple dB/octave in a car environment once you get loc, it actually plays louder down there than up higher (which is what most people want). Needless to say, it also plays pretty loud (110dB) with ~300W RMS @4ohms.

How would I know? I model everything in BassBox and 3d before building it.

I'd say that's a bit more helpful than 100 posts saying "Oh I heard my friend's XXX and it was bomb." I've helped numerous people on here pick their sound systems, and even built a couple. PM me if you're serious.

Thx Jefe
But i purchased this enclosure only because NOTHING else could fit. The trunk of the vert (possibly all coupes) is extremely shallow. Cant get a sub to sit upright, perhaps at an angle, but damn there is so little room in there.

Yeah, its ported on the opposite side of the sub, out the side.

Bought it here in the FS section for $60 shipped :rawk:

I would have purchased a 10", but couldnt pass up the deal on this sub. I like clean crisp hard-hitting base, but this damn thing rocks. Ive always been a huge fan of Memphis hardware. Cant go wrong.

Yeah, its ported on the opposite side of the sub, out the side.

The coupe trunk has 13" top to bottom, can easily fit a 10" in there, even with 3/4" MDF. Vert might be less.

You guys with ported boxes need to make sure the port has at least one port diameter's spacing before any obstructions ~ if you run a 3" port, make sure you have at least 3" of clearance between the end of the port and the nearest bulkhead/etc. If you don't, you're starving the port for air, and adding additional resistance on the voice coil... not only will it not sound as good, it'll help blow that nice sub.

I've got 2 JL 10W6 in my truck. Plenty for such a small cab space.
In the 180, I'm running just 1 8W7. Didn't want anything extreme in the car....
