this is rediculous, we NEED to get all these euro-wundercars stateside

almost 70mph [edit: almost 70 mgG not mph haha] and performance better than our beloved 240sx's stock specs?

good thing we saved the domestic auto industry... what keeps these awesome cars out of our hands anyway?

It only goes 70mph? That's no fun.

I don't doubt bmw (and other euro manufacturers) have had this tech for quite some time.
Another article from the site shows the bmw x1 suv w/ 1.8l diesel & 50-something mpg.

Although, I would prefer an engine like that in a smaller mini or even 1 series.

But damn the torque that monster produces...

sexpanda : I think america will want a bmw that gets 69 mpg shit I would buy it if I had the money. It would be a great car to compete against the other car makers hybrid type cars.

honestly, that would be an amazing car to own. if you average 69 mpg's all the time, and say the car has a 15-20 gallon tank. amazing! 1035 - 1380 MILES PER TANK. how epicly awesome would it be to fill up your car every thousand miles? i've heard of TDI guys sometimes getting 800 miles out of a single tank, and the thought alone blows my mind.

the cool thing about this 320d is that its got quite a bit more power than the TDI's do, and that it's rwd. so it could potentially be, and probably will be a lot of fun to drive. i am curious to see what the new 2.0 TDI is going to bring to the table. considering we will be getting that here for sure.

I loved my BMW, probably the single most reliable (except water pump) car I've ever owned. I'd buy another BMW in a heartbeat.

And they arent expensive to own if you know what your doing lol.

How can an electric car get a mpg rating when it doesn't use any gas? O.o

Anyways, this car might venture over here eventually...just the pricing of it might put the general public out of interest.

I think it would do well (if it passes CARB regulations).
There really is no fuel efficient luxury car avail in the US market right now.

If you're a business person, its not like you can take out your clients and/or boss in a prius/civic hybrid/mini cooper/jetta tdi.
The best compromise between fuel efficiency, luxury (if not also fun-to-drive) is probably the 30/40 Audi A3 Tdi w/ awd.
Tdi's are also a lot of fun to drive as they are torque monsters, easy to extract more power & even more torque.

having the exp of driving around in my family's civic hybrid in the last year of so,
I can attest they are no fun at all.

I'd expect it to sell for about what the 328 sells for, if not a little more. So around 38-30 base, which for BMW means no sport shifter, nice 18 inch wheels, leather seats, or Ipod dock.

Wait, isnt that around the same price as a nicely equipped Prius? I could see this being a hot seller for BMW if they can play their cards right.

ROFL I don't know why but what you just said made me fucking laugh for serial. I remember when I worked at firestone, I sat in the parking lot for like 5 minutes trying to start a honda civic hybrid. It was on... on electric mode, that is. Shit was waaaaaay to quiet. I couldn't drive something like that.

Uber stealth stalker car status though, gotta hand it to the folks over at honda lol

We really need all those diesel cars stateside. I would so rock one as a daily. There are so many cool cars available in Europe that are far from looking like a misshaped egg on wheels.

Also, the majority of you are retards. Look at the fucking title and actually read it "Prius-Killing." Seriously, some of you need to go back to grade school and bust a Billy Madison so you can catch up with all the 5th graders.

what does the new e90(?) three series weigh? like3400 lbs? stick this torquey 2.0 diesel in a z4 and have a economical sports car that gets what like 70+mpg.. it'd be unheard of..

+1 to DreamN for showing what hooked on phonics can do for reading comprehension.. come on guys

I thought a prius smoked a bmw or something WTF.

theres an AWESOME topgear vid of a prius vs a m3... let me dig it up

Z3's and Z4's are actually WAY heavier than they look. but i agree, throw it in something small and sporty. you could probably get away with something that doesnt feel like a diesel.

interesting, but seatbelt.blogspot says 177hp, 258ft lbs, and 58 mpg's.

bmwblog.com says 177hp, 258 torque and 44mpg's.

dieselstation.com says 163hp, 360Nm, and 68.9mpg's.

from the BMW website:
Combined fuel consumption: 4.7 to 5.9 l/100 km

4.7L / 100km is roughly 1.24 gallons of fuel per 60 miles. so im assuming it is in the low 50's per gallon.

lol, if you ask me. top gear is notorious for messing up numbers. :keke:

discrepancy in mpg ratings aren't surprising.

it's probably b/c of different ways to measure mpg.
brits probably have their equivalent of the EPA, as do other countries.
bmw prob advertises differently for whatever (maybe marketing) reason.

In the US, even epa ratings aren't the same as what the manufacturers typically suggest

And England has the Imperial gallon or some rediculous poppycock of that nature (said in an english voice)

IIRC our gallon is smaller. Could be wrong, its been a while since any of this meant anything of consequence to me...
