I have searched around on here about getting rid of the **** stock 4x6ers. The consensus is ~6" speakers with a custom baffle.
But I can get a good deal on some 6x9s and wanted to ask those of you who have fitted them:
If you have pics of the setup, and also specs of the speakers the sizes (like depths and such), or give me the model number if you don't know for sure.
Also any tips on making the baffle, I know to use 1/4" MDF, what other tips can you give. I read somewhere that it would be good to make something to seal the speaker so that the back is not open to the door. Becuase if it is it ruin mid range bass or something. So what do you recommend to seal it?
BTW its an '89 hatch

check out my cardoamin site, i put 6x9's on the four corners...and they fit good....
www.cardomain.com/id/crioten
and mines a pretty ghetto rigged setup, i just cut holes largeenough in the door w/ a dremel tool, and mounted them on some shims...but it looks and sounds great...

I think most audiophiles would never use a 6X4, 6X9 or any speakers that's not round...
I have a 6.5 up front, created a custom baffle, nothing really too difficult... wish I can post up pictures, wish I had a digicam to take pictures...

what's wrong with 6X9's they are a good size speaker that can handle a good amount of power. Mine take 100 rms.

Well it's so much that 6x9's are bad, but coaxials in general are kind of crappy.
I have 5.25's up front woot!

What kind of speakers you got, give me the full model name, and about how much space do you have behind em?
crioten - What models do you have.
I really need to know other ones that fit, everything else I have figured out, except for fitting, need to know if they will clear.
Also to both Duff and crioten what thickness MDF did you use (1/4"?)

There's a debate regarding round speakers vs non round speakers somewhere on FA. It's something along the lines of the distribution of soundwaves being more constant on a round speakers...
you don't see non-round speakers at any home systems...
you don't see non-round speakers at any high end car systems either, like those super bling, bling 1000+ watt systems...
Of course this doesn't mean all non-round speakers suck... It's just that audiophiles wouldn't use it.
If you want good speakers, get component speakers...
I have a panasonic 6.5 (only because I got it super cheap), don't know the model#...

Could someone tell how to much you'd have to cut the door and how big the MDF "support" would have to be? Also, How do you mount the MDF??? I REALLY want to use some 6.5 Infinity Kappa Components up front...anyone fitted these?

i have an eclipse 5 1/4 componet set up front, nothing in the back, soon to be upgrading to 6 1/2 ID camelons in the front and a new amp to power them, from all of my knowlegde, ditch the 6/9s and put some 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 componet set or coaixls(tweeter mounted on driver) thats what i like about the camelons the tweeters can be mounted either way (man i cant spell) Oh you really dont even need your highs or mids in the back, it also isnt good for your imaging, unless you have it all setup correctly, and in most cases more speakers turn out to more distortion, you usually have better sound quality with a mininal amount of speakers (read that somewhere, also have since it with the sound quality tests at stereo comps, but you can judge things on a single, or few times)i dont know what the hell im taking about anymore, its too late to be thinking about this stuff, time for sleep

I have a Orion HCCA component set in my front and the piece of wood would fit either 5.25 or 6.5. I'm not sure how much backspacing they have but its a fair amount and they fit.
I would say pretty much any 6.5 or smaller speaker will fit without cutting unless it is some super-deep mid-bass sub or something. Not sure on the 6x9.
