Well im in need of some new tires and have been wondering if I could run a wider tire on the rear Im running some old school 2pc work wheels which are 17x8 with a +35 offset with RT-615's in a 225/45. Do I have enough room too move up to a 235/40 or maaaybee a 245/40?

8j = 205mm roughly. So how much do you want it to bubble out and have more sidewall flex?

215 or 225 would be good on an 8J for grip, I wouldn't go wider than that. I was running 215/45 star specs on 8J's and it gripped really well but I wish I would have had a little bit more tire. I would get something other than RT-615's though, exspecially for a DD. I now have the same 215's on 9J's, with them stretched I can tell a huge difference in grip. There is no sidewall flex at all, flex is good for grip no matter what Ricer Ray has to say.

It's all about the offset.I have 17x10 all the way around on stock body. 275 35 17 in the rear 245 40 17 in the front

For 8" wide wheel I'd go 225, I'm running 8.5" on the front with 235 and it's good, perfectly flat and no bubble whatsoever.

A 235/40 can go on a rim with a min. Width of 7.5" to a Max. 9.5" so a 235 should be fine on an 8" rim

Just FYI, Nissan puts 235's on the stock 17" rims on the 350z. And they are 17x8 in the rear. So I would consider 235 a good size for an 8 inch rim.

=35 offset on what chassis? For the rear i had 275's of an s14 stock body on 9.5 For 8's id go for 235 or 245 in the rear and same for front or one less (235R 225F) (245R 235F) If its an s14 you could possibly even go 255/245. but then 255 might start gettin a bit big for 8's.

id go for 235 or 245 in the rear and same for front or one less (235R 225F) (245R 235F)

^^this. you were asking if you can put a different size rear on the same size width wheels. the 240sx came like this originally with like a 195/205 or 205/215 (cant remember) stagger.

and it depends on how much power you're putting down...i have stock sr and 235R is great...with any more power i will run 245 or 255 ( i have 9 inch wheels)

Long story short you can. I've put a 245 on a 17x7, if it fits under the fender it plays.
