Hola everyone,

I don't normally post, I'm more of a watcher. I'm finally aloud to get my project car now that it is the summertime and since I couldn't find an S-14 that was a stick I moved over to the Toyota MR2-T. One of my friend's brother-in-law's is selling his and it is more then tricked out. I'm talking about raceing clutch, suspension, brakes, everything. He's also throwing in the 2,000 dollars worth of parts that he has with it! :D The thing is, my insurence said it'll cost me 8000 bucks a year to run it with the current set-up thanks to me wrecking out my 2k1 civic not to long ago. My dad is telling me if we buy it, the engine must go back stock  , I suggested just turning the turbo down, but it's still pushing the car to 300 hp. If I went down to the stock turbo, or a smaller turbo? I dont know what I'm going to do, but I'm getting it soon ;-)

Here are some facts that re releated to it.
Car: 1991 MR-T
Miles on Car: 125,000
Miles on Engine: 5,000 since being rebuilt.

Clear mods I could see: Stage 4 Turbo, pipeing, small chrome tipped exhuast. Apc [ or apexi , I can't remember ] Boost monitor, boost pod's along driver' colom and a few other things.

System: 2 8" JL W6s [ I think. ] PPI Amp . Eclipse headunit.
[ I'm swapping this out most likely with my Sony X-Plode headunit , My OLD school Rockford Fosgate amp. ]

Other: Fake carbon fiber dash kit, yellow paint, decent guages, raceing pedeals, and two Sparco raceing seats. [ One is all black, and fixiated, the other looks like a warn Sparco Torino. ]

What do you guys think I can do to help drop insurence or improve this situastion? He's selling it for 8,500 bucks, includeing all the stuff in the car, the engine mods, and 2,000 dollers worth of parts he's collected over the year for his car.

Until then, take it easy.

And if anyone see's DSC anymore, tell him it's a damn shame he is selling his s-14.

Insurance company knowing mods and power? That's a new one on me, but whatever. Doesn't matter how you (de)tune it, as long as it's still an "MR2 Turbo" most likely your insurance premiums will suck...

if youre going to pay 8500 for a car why not just get an s13 and fixed it up a bit? Ive seen an mr2 engine bay before. And it seems like it would be a pain to work on. Plus buying a car and then taking crap outta it sounds like a pretty retarded project car. heheh 240s have cheap insurance.

My dad is on a whole "honest" trip. He feels that if my car gets wrecked, or I get a ticket I'll be dicked.

I've got a close friend who just bought an MR2 turbo like 2 days ago. He's in the process of fixing it up. So if you wanna get rid of your stuff, you can contact me at [email protected] . Does your dad know anything about turbos? If not, he won't know the difference between a boost controller and a "engine monitoring system?"??

Holy ****e dude, $8000 a year for insurance? I thought I had it bad....What the hell did you do?

Where I live, if you make a claim that is you fault, no matter how big the damage is (minor to totalled), you insurance rate goes up a few stages. It starts at stage 0 which is around $1200/year. I'm paying $2400/year because I had one at fault accident.

For me to be paying $8000 a year, I would have to have 3 at fault accidents....so question is, what the hell is your driving record like?
