View Full Version : 1st post ever, don't kill the newbie. Conversion question.
Hey guys, this is my very first post and I know I will probably get flammed for it but I haven't figured out the full navigation of this site yet. I am a veteran on the Twinturbo.net (Z32) and we always flame the guys that ask the non turbo to turbo conversion questions, so I understand if you want to start razzing. Ok here is the question.
I have always been a 300zx (Z32) lover and have just about finished my Z project. I never was interested in a 240, but a friend of mine here in San Antonio, TX just did a conversion on his 240sx with an S14 engine and it came out pretty good. Runs pretty fast and strong. I am looking at purchasing a 95-98 240sx and may want to do a small headlight conversion at first before I attempt anything too extreme. I want to say they are Koseki headlights. I reall like the way the projector style looks over the stock look. Where would I get these if I purchase a 240sx. I am running about 500rwhp on my Z but want something a little toned down for daily driving, hence the 240sx investigation. I will probably convert a lot of the stock Z32 parts I have in the garage to the 240 but who knows (like the brakes, injectors, etc.) But where can I get those slick looking headlights, and what are they called if I am wrong. PS- What conversion options do I have for that particular car (ie, direct drop in ... if there is such a thing with this car).
i'm a newb also :p but you should be able to run a search for your lighting questions and go here (http://www.srswap.com) for conversion options.

The stock project look is from the 97-98 240sx....either you could go to Nissan Parts Cetner and purchase it for 2,000 or so (you will need the whole front end, becuase the 95-96 have different fenders, front bumper, and hood), or get the s14a kouki front end conversion for 2100 from japan and install it yourself....is that what you are talking about?

hey what's up?
my very good friend drives a z32tt (toso on tt.net and spongerider is another one)
anywyas.
yeah
kouki
is the term you are looking for there
that'st the 97/98 headights
zenki is the term for the 95-96 USDM models
front end conversion? check the FAQ section here on zilvia. you can find the write up there iirc.
yeah some things off the z can swap over, spefically the brakes :)
not TOO MUCH moves over, but there are afew
be sure you get a 5 lug model 240sx. then you can share wheels!! :) we are 5x114.3 as well
direct drop in? your in texas so its easier legally. though engine is ALWAYS illegal, a SR20DET is the easiest drop in wise
read up here at
www.srswap.com
for lots of info and such. read up on the various engine choices (my suggestion: if you get a 95 up PLEASE get a s14 engine, i hate people who go with a redtop SR=cheapest in their S14..but that's just me, im anal)
hope that helps. shoot if you got more qs
welcome to zilvia
oh btw, dont mind the flamers and a holes...and that includes me, im usually one of the above hahahahahahhahaa...
any pics of your z32tt? my friend's (toso) is like 4xx rwhp (not yet tuned and dynoed at the moment-he's on vacation)
Thanks for the info on the swaps, that helps a lot. I was looking at nothing less than an SE, but haven't even seen a 98+ here in SA with low (yeah right) miles on it.
About my Z32, we just finished molding all the body lines, door locks and lines smoothed and a full wings west kit and custom taillights... all painted gunmetal gay (gray). We also cut about 520lbs out of the car and added a 4 point cage just in case.
The engine was pulled and we dumped about $9K into it.
Some of the mods- 555 injectors, Arais pistons, port & polished heads w/3 angle titatium lifters, Ported upper/lower intakes, ported throttle bodies, custom Fisher concepts pulley and Unorthodox lightweight pulleys, fully custom race prepped ECU (70+ hp), T28/T25 hybrid turbos, JDM Blitz BOVs, 1pc alum driveshaft, RPS clutch, Koyo radiator light flywheel... there is a bunch of other stuff, I just can't think right now. The engine is built but the body is being prepped right now. We are almost positive we can get the 500rwhp goal intended, on the 1/4 I will be shooting for a mid 12 but who knows. I wanted the 240 basically for ****s and giggles. I know if I kept just the 300zx I would start to get crazy and really do some wild stuff to it. I know if I get a 240sx I have a blank platform on a daily driver that I will work with so I would keep the mods slow moving for a while.
ps- Thanx for the help, it'll keep me busy for a while.

Hey what's up welcome to the board. I'm a big fan of 300tt's.
Question: Why not just try and get a 97-98 since all your going to do is a headlight conversion which will run you in the 2k range?
I understand that 97-98 may be harder to find and a little more money but with that 2 grand your gonna use on the 95-96 u can just put it toward the 97-98.
maybe i missed something u said though.

thats because they stopped importing the s-chassis to the US after 98..
Good luck with the project.
