Hi there every one.

I'm mick from the UK i'v been around the forum for about a year looking around and it a very cool site:bigok: . I drive a 180sx with a sr20det black top none vvt

The thing is i need help i thought i would come and ask here as i dont seem to be getting much help over on the SXOC . Anyways this is my problem.

I'm really starting to stress with this now. The car's been off the road for 2 months. My problem is the turbo went on the 180sx so I thought time to go up to a gt28r. Good times! So I got a new gt28r and fit it . I didn't know that they came with an internal restrictor so I fit one in the banjo that I got for the turbo. I primed the turbo and had oil come from the return . I did the new turbo start up process. I went for a drive and within a mile the turbo was dead. Bad times! I found out that they have an in-built restrictor so I thought it must have been my own fault with 2 restrictors in there. So I got another turbo and I fit it today but I started the car and I'm getting the same whining sound like the turbo's going to fail again. I turned the car off straight away.
Could it be low oil pressure starving the turbo? I'm at my wits end.

The oil has been replaced so i dont think it could be crap in the oil.

I cant hear the noise on tick over yet, but as soon an you start reving it you can hear the noise

I'v not even made boost with it. The last time i made boost with the first turbo it killed it.

I dont have an oil pressure gauge to test any pressure yet.

the second puffer is brand new . I got brand new braided oil and water lines with new banjo bolts . every thing was plumbed in. i left the oil return off and primed the turbo with out the coil pack conected.

I had oil running as a slow streem running from the return. I reconected the return and turned the car over in 10second bursts for 2/3mins. i then started the car and left it ticking over for 2 mins .

then turned it off and let it stand for 20mins. then ticking over for 2 mins again. every seemed good so i tried reving it but almost as soon as i reved it i started to got the whining. it was only quiet so i thought i was the sound every said the gt28r make. I then drove it about 200 feet under no load but the sound got louder. its the same sound i got befor the first turbo craped its self. so i turned the car off.

all i can think is there is very little oil pressure and as soon as the car is started theres no oil pressure to pump oil to the turbo. but im not sure

Sorry if i'v repeated my self once or twice but i'm trying to give as much info i can.

I hope some one whos had the same problem can help

Keep up the good work.
Thanks alot Mick

Did you check for shaft play on the turbos? I'd get an oil pressure gauge and check your oil pressure pronto. Last thing you need is throwing money on more turbos when you're engine is about to blow up.

maybe you have a blockage somewhere?

you need a proper oil pressure gauge

do you have the proper oil restrictor for that turbo. and whats the brand name of the turbo.

the oil restrctor is built into the turbo. i think its must be about .6mm. both turbos are new so no shaft play. i think im only going to find out when i get a pressure gauge on it

sounds like a oil prob maybe but if your getting low oil pressure then it should show on the stock oil pressure guage, if it works.

an oil pressure gauge is a vital item

i use vdo, they are inexpensive and oem supplier for bmw and various other cars. ive never had one of their gauges fail on me.

from the little i read so far, it appears that you have low oil pressure (oil pump) and that you should have that checked out, because its starving your turbo.

good luck, keep us posted with your problem

Check your oil pump
but if your oil pump was busted
you wouldve fried your camshafts by now
take off your rocker and check condition of the cams
if they are stuffed
your oil pumps broken

check your fitting on your block.make sure its not blocked... so that way atleast the oil line gets oil.. if you have popped both turbos somethings up!
