Even though its about an MR2, its my belief that every company should maintain standards of buisness which help the community. This is just something posted on the MR2 forums.

My Terrible Experience with FullSpeedPerformance

I am posting my story and my transaction with Luke at FullSpeedPerformance to maybe prevent this happening to anyone else. I realize this in the wrong forum but I want as many fellow board members to read this as possible. So mods feel free to put this wherever you want.

My 91 5sfe died about 4 months ago. I only had it for about 7 months and never got to drive it hard. So the previous owners got to have all the fun. Anyway, I wanted to do a turbo swap since it was only a couple hundred dollars more than a new 5sfe. (I have a good friend who has been a mechanic for 30 plus years to help me do all the work). I did some research and heard about Jarco, but they were really expensive. So I tried to find an importer on the East Coast. I then read a post by Drakeshakes (neill) he is out of NY. He said he had some 93 clips coming in and so I told him my story and that I needed the clip as soon as possible. He said cool, and told me to contact his supplier in California. (I should have changed my mind then, but I'm not good with business transactions) His supplier was Luke at FullSpeedPerformance. He seemed nice, and a couple guys on the board said he was a good guy to deal with. He said he had some clips coming in, yadda yadda yadda. I told him I was in a hurry and he said it would only take about 5 days once the clip was shipped. He then said FullSpeed doesn't take credit card payments over a thousand dollars (should have stopped transaction there, I've been told this is done so I can't stop payment) So I got a cash advance at 20% interest and overnighted the money orders. Well, Luke didn't ship the clip until a week later. Even though he knew I needed it. He said something about his truck being in Utah or something. Then the shipping that was supposed to take 5 days, took about 2 weeks. This is all fine and dandy, but I have no car. Once I recieved the clip, it was supposed to have paperwork telling of its exact mileage. Well that wasnt there, and it took Luke about another week to "find it". It stated that the engine had less than 30k on it, which is pretty close to impossible upon further inspection, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. So it took about a month for me to be able to recieve the clip and get to work on it. I didn't take the clip home until I had paperwork. (waste of time anyway). I then took it home and over the course of 4 saturdays, we finally got it swapped over. We replaced: clutch, thermostat, cap.rotor, plugs, wires, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, water pump, alternator, alternator belt, timing belt, etc, etc. We did not however change the headgasket. (Apparently we were supposed to tear down this "30k" engine and change the head gasket). We got it in and spliced all the wire. Then we went to put the hubs on the axles and my old na hubs wouldnt fit the turbo lsd tranny axles. Luke or whomever works for luke, I believe his name is nic, forgot to ship the hubs. It took look 3 weeks to get me the hubs. Thats including the 2day shipping. Now the most odd thing is happening. The car will drive fine but the coolant system, the radiator cap and overflow tank will buzz with pressure after a few minutes of driving. Its not overheating, and yes we changed the coolant about 20 times. (no lie). After a few days research on the board archives and talking to a few board members with the same symptoms. The only thing it can be is the head gasket. I called FullSpeed and they said its my problem and that I should have changed the head gasket and that luke shouldve told me that. I cant seem to get ahold of luke. They said the head gasket would obviously be leaking since its been sitting for so long. Even though its sealed up in the engine. The amount of time an engine sits has nothing to do with the head gasket leaking. Unless a super long time like 5 to 10 years. Anyway, FullSpeed says its my problem and that I should have changed it. So I haven't had a car for 3 plus months and paid him $3000 and now I have to pay someone to change my head gasket because my mechanic doesn't have enough time. He has a fulltime job now. So I have to fix what Luke gave me. I also found out through a little research and making some phone call that Luke gets most of his used parts and clips from Venus Those are the guys that everyone on the board says to stay away from. I would add luke to the list. Of couse, I would gladly renig my statements and be happy if Luke would settle this matter. After all, all I want is for my car to run.

So all in all, I would stay away from Luke.

Thanks,

Josh

I am the wife of Josh's mechanic and I have to say that everything Josh is saying is totally true, I just would have been more harsh! I also have had dealings with Luke at Full Speed Performance concerning this matter and I would have to say that my experience with him was awful. He is a terrible business person, can't keep one lie straight from the next lie and gets very defensive at something that was obviously his fault to begin with. I would stay as far away from him as possible as well as Venus who is as bad as Luke is. There has to be other distributors of clips that are reputable. My suggestion from years of business experience is to ask for references and get license numbers, and a better business bureau search before I drop 3k on anything.

Thanks!
