uh. half the people here wouldn't be able to afford a warm meal, let alone a nice restaurant that would offer valet.

So I brought my girl to The Melting Pot in San Diego about 2 months ago. I'm not very familiar with the area and trying to play gps on the iPhone while driving is a feat in itself. So I drive past the place and she's like "HEY THERE IT IS!!" So I'm like fuck, it's a narrow two way street and I have about 15 minutes to be there for our reservation. So I boogie down the street flip a bitch and come back down.

So here I am pulling up next to a Hilton hotel on one side and a beautiful fountain in the middle, and to the right a high end frenchy resturaunt and our destination.

So picture this, a 2 colored 240sx coupe. Half red and half primer gray with a locked rear pulling around the fountain. CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP! So I pull up to the guy doing valet and he has this huge fucking smile on his face. He's like, "nice ride. I have a "Jdm" integra downstairs." I respond, "nice man."

So he takes off and we go inside and as we are waiting for our table, the faint chirping is heard in the parking garage and I just started laughing.

After dinner I came out to get my car along with the people driving 7 series and high end Mercedes. I give the lady the ticket and as she gets the keys off the hook, she's like oh "soandso" wanted to bring it back up.(same kid who took it down.)

2 minutes later......wahhhhhpshhhhhchirpchirpchrip. And I will remember this for the rest of my life, an old man to my left looks at my car with this profound look and goes. Hmm, idiot must have left the parking brake on hahahaha it was so funny at the time.

Anyway that's my story haha

My " team " went to a nighclub that we get free everything for and we let the valets

park our cars since its free on our part and I talk to them etc. so they take care of

our shit. Right when he gets in he stalls, starts it up stalls again. Everyone in line and

all around plus us are just laughing and yelling at him. He struggles to get it out of 1st

and parks it a few feet away

I eat out a lot.
I will valet whenever I can't find parking.
all i do is remove the head unit.

most valet guys aren't stuck up.
they might want a tip, but that about it.
my 240 looks stock, inside out, so no worries there.

Now my old crx was exactly the type of junker the OP mentioned.
it was stripped (stupid, I know), had a rollbar, sparco seat w/ harness, fart-can exhaust, etc.
tint was purple w/ bubbles everywhere.
suspension had 500 lb springs.
What I lacked in gauges, I made up with dents everywhere.
It was a POS.

I loved pulling that thing into valets!
The 4 Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, or The Ritz Carlton in San Marino were my favs.
Had so much fun & good memories with that car. :D

i've never had a valet park any of my cars. has nothing to do with the car i drive, but damn. thats something I can do myself... things like that make me feel like a schmuck. i can only imagine some young kid getting in my S14 and being a tough guy, spinning it into a group of cars or something. lol.

ive been to hotel fig here in downtown, my HB looks like ass, 1 seat, and from front seat to back gutted...

i pull up in a suite, guy takes my car, and he goes around the corner he lets off and my greddy BOV does it job right next to a few older people who get the shit scared out of them (mind you its an indoor lower parking lot)

when i got back the valet was worried that the car wasnt turning off when he took out the key (T.T.) apperantly he left the car (while it was still on but locked) to get his supervisor, when he got back it was off...

lol

apperantly he was wondering if he was tripping or something

most valet places understand the meaning of "self park" for special cars

if they dont, i dont park it. no way i leave my pocket full of change with some dumbasses arent able to pay me for the possible damage that can happen to my car.

Would you really take a woman on a date in a 240 with no a/c and bucket seats with harnesses?
I would be embarrassed.
My car is gutted and unwelcoming, but that is because it is purely for my enjoyment and no one else ever rides it.
To be honest, I do not even tell anyone I like cars. It is my dirty (nasty gross oily coolant-leaking) secret.

When my Dad and I went to the House of Prime Rib in San Francisco, I had no choice but to Valet the car GTR seats and all( the Misty Blue one in my Gallery), needless to say nothing bad came of it. Of course this is one of the best Prime Rib restaurant in the whole damn country.

It was pretty funny though to drive up in a lowered sports car with semi racing seats and a 81 year old man steps out of the passenger seat. Yup Dad is old and still going strong.

I valet my car all the time. My car is too low to get into some parking lots, so I always pull up to valet and tell them to keep the car up front. In some cases I will even keep my keys so that they cant move it later.

Furthermore, if its a place I frequently go to, I will give them a hefty tip for being courteous for allowing a 10 year old car preferential treatment

haha ive thought about doing a thread on this... anyway ive never valet any of my cars (s13s' or datsun's) but i have with my other regular cars. Anyway few times that ive gone to vegas i think about if i was to take my car there how much of a hassle or better yet how much damage my car will get. I say that not referring to the valet guy himself but all them huge speed bumps and how low them entrances to the structures are how my front end will scrape and flex and how the exhaust will hit on the speed bumps. But what i always think about is how when the valet guy parks the car and tries to put the E brake on lol hes gona be like fuck this shit is broken or he'll be like why doesnt this car turn off lol... maybe one day i wll valet just to see how it goes

Ok so here is my 50cents.

I valet park for a parking service and manage the valet parking at The Trabuco Oaks Steak House( steak house in the middle of Trabuco canyon), and sometimes at the Bungalow in Newport Beach off of pch.

If anyone wants to drive out and have a good steak or even just a burger and some bear you should come out its pretty affordable, and the drive is alot of fun just make sure not to speed too much and drive responsibly and respect the road.
Trabuco Oaks Steakhouse of Trabuco Canyon, California Restaurant Home Page (http://trabucooakssteakhouse.com/index.htm) check out the menu.

I have never opened anyones glove box, rummaged throught shit, or taken any cars for joyrides off the lot and have driven cars as nice or nicer than anyone has on here or that are worth more than anyones cars on here, and there is a million dollar insurance policy on all locations, plus you should have insurance for your own car so if something happens, big f'n deal, it's covered.

All the guys that work with me own 240s.
At the Trabuco Oak steak house there is no self parking at all , and they only have valet but it is complimentary because it is manditory.
This might sound like bullshit, but most people can't drive let alone park inside the lines at a Target and the parking lot at the trabuco oaks is a gravel one without lines that is very small and we have to get alot of cars in there, and most people cant do that. So to get in as many customers as posible and keep the place orderly and all the cars safe we have to valet.

On some ocasions someone will come in with a stupid expensive car and request to park it themselves, which if we have space and the time for me to guide them then ill let them park themselves.

But anytime I get a 240 which has only been twice( other than my car, my brothers car, and roberts s14, I always park them in the front by the door which is were we usually park the more expensive or sports cars.) One time I parked a oxidized leather interior stock ass s13 hatch next to a Noble, Porsche and Maserati Grand turismo( which was bought by the owner that day), people walked out and were like wtf? All i said was that I was biase to Nissans.

Anyway most the time the guys that are the biggest ass hole douchbags are usually driving a p.o.s car that isnt worth the tires and rims that are on the cars I have parked in front, and its always some tool that is like "nodody drives my car but me! this is dumb!"" Im going to self park!" But they take there car to get its oil changed and they dont drive it when they get there tires changed so they are full of shit, so they are just trying to be difficult, and its always funny because, there is not self parkin anywhere in the area because its all narrow canyon roads withotu roadside parking, and private property, so they have to come back and either let me park there car or try to be nice and see if I will let them park there car. Usually this person owns a bmw 318.

But Valet is surprising because the people that show up with a new lexus ls, and wearing gucci or other highend designer brands are the ones that give you a $1 tip when it is free to have your car valet parked, and the guy that shows up with the geo prizm is the guy that will drop you a 10 spot.

I dont blame most the people on here who don't valet because before I work for valet, I would not let someone else park my car, but now that I do, I would prefer to, because thisway someone cant key your car, door ding you or try to steal your car, and if they do its covered because they have to have insurance by law.

A little tip for those that decide to valet, the claim check that you are given usually have a disclaimer, which states that any disput about dings damage or stollen property are null and void once you leave the property of the valet parking. So make sure you check your shit if you want before you leave the parking lot.

Usually kindness and patience will get you farther then being angry and impatient. Plus it doesnt hurt to be nice and tip someone if they let you park the car yourself.

Just my imput from both points of view.

I valet parked my 240 once. I had to go to a friends wedding. There I was in my suit, pulled up front and to my horror...... valet parking. I don't let anyone drive my car. All the other cars are nice and quiet (bmw, lexus, infiniti blah blah blah) and I'm driving an S13 coupe with open exhaust, KA24DE-T, stage 4 clutch, welded diff. My bumpers are held on with zip tie stitches I don't even have to go on you guys know. The valet gets in stalls it. Starts it back up and tries to make a slow sharp turn hahaha did I mention no power steering chirp chirp chirp he struggles through it and leaves it close to the front.

Oh yeah I had to park in Manhattan once in an underground parking facility. I'm standing by the office waiting for them to bring the car up. It's three levels underground and I could hear him start it all way down there.

Since then I've gotten my exhaust done lol.

I also valet cars as my second (and most reliable) source of income, i work at what is supposedly the largest hotel between San Fransisco and Los Angeles. A lot of NFL teams and what not stay there including the rookie 49ers who have yet to buy a home in the area, so naturally we get a lot of expensive cars, and we have yet to have a accident or any damage occur to any guest's cars. My coworker's cars include a '67 camaro, Cougar XR-7, NSX and 67 Mustang, the only incident we had was when a lady drove into the valet lot and hit my coworkers infiniti M45, which was obviously not our fault. I personally treat every car we get with respect, but i have yet to valet any of my own cars. what illvialuver said about tips is very true, we have had Sylvester Stallone come in and tip a dollar, Steve Jobs didnt tip at all, among other celebrities, although some do tip well. One thing that does bother me however is that we simply dont have time to warm up cars or let them cool down regardless of whether or not they are modified or otherwise in need to special treatment.

After all is said, i still dont think i would valet my personal car unless i absolutely had to, but then again i don't drive an S13 any more and any damage to my car would not be compensated to my worth of the car.

adding my .02

i know the people that drive those expensive cars in most cases think it's expected. you get other people that are grateful and appreciative of what you're doing. where i work i bring customer's cars in to work on them all the time, and release the car back to them. i treat it as if it were my own. wipe myself off. wash my hands really good so i don't dirty anything . never expect a tip. but it is nice to get one.
when i go somewhere i usually self park, unless they make you vallet. then when they do i tip them pretty good. i have had my car parked in front a few times, i came back outside from the restruant one time and they parked my s14 next to a aston martin, and a amg sl. right up front. lol i straight up asked the guy why. he just said " thought it looked cool with 3 black cars , and why not? "

What days do you work? :D

illvialuver
08-29-2009, 12:37 AM
I work every day except monday and tuesday there.

Okay so here is the low down, at the oaks we practically bring the car 4 feet from the door, open the doors for people greet them in a friendly manner, make sure we are clean and since the lot is gravel, our feet can get dusty so I make sure to dust off the cars, and I never adjust the seats unless I absolutely have to and I make sure to put it back.

I don't see what the big deal is about someone stalling your car, that shit happens sometimes to everybody.

No Lexus owners are not the worst tippers, but I am just saying you would expect people who care more about their cars would show a little gratitude to the person that makes sure there car does not get dinged, vandalized and makes sure they can get a parking spot. If you want to make sure the valet takes good care of your car, make sure to give a tip before you dine and valets will make sure to take extra good care of your car. NO NOT LIKE FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF.

But there are shady ass people who valet at someplaces, I have found that most of these places are places that have parking garages, or places where they park the car out of your site. This gives the valet person extra chance for them to mess arond with your car or take it for a drive. And like any business there are shit heads who do shit like steal change, ipods, phones or other shit. I met one guy like that and would never have him work for me.

To be honest I always expect a little something especially when the valet is complimentary. When is anything in life free? If I went to a place to eat and there was not any parking anywhere around and they only had valet and it was free, I would atleast drop a five spot. Atleast!

Anyway, I understand people that don't want people parking there cars, everyonce in a while, people that come in and want to park themselves, but are usually nice about it and you can tell the car is there baby, and they usually tip decently.

But I have go to drive/park some super nice cars, thanks to this job and I am greatful and treat all the cars I drive with respect. And yes even the rentals.

It is my dirty (nasty gross oily coolant-leaking) secret.

fyi...........

the woman who used to go on dates in that stripped down, empty hatch with R32 seats, rollbar and harnesses... wish no dash, no door panels, and no AC....................... is now my wife.

yes...

i do it as a test... back in april i was talking to this girl and she wanted to know whats up, we go out and i bring my hatch (CA18, 3'' pipping, gutted from front seats back...dirty as hell, no A/C, blown shocks, and a hint of transmission and gas fumes here and there...) to pick her up, she said my car was intresting and fast...had a pretty good time, and i asked her why she didnt run away when she saw me pull up in the car, because she's into me, not into wat i have...:D

next date i picked her up in the daily (clean stock 91 coupe)...;)

My gf goes everywhere with me. She actually prefers that I take my car(s) rather than hers.

Anyway, I never let anybody else drive my cars.

Let alone a valet.

I remember a few years ago in Vegas, my dad had them park our car for us.

Coin tray was empty when we got the car back.

Great, right?

I do valet for a very large business in the state of DE and me and pretty much all the other valet attendants are really into cars, (my 240, friends have mach1, MSP, VR6 jetta, fully built GTP, and lots of other nice cars).
Where we valet, we drive alot of cars that are complete utter SHIT. Doors dont open, windows broke, smells like an old abondoned pet store in the middle of summer after hobos live in it, etc. ive driven everything from a geo etc. to ferraris lambos, and aston martins. I honestly wouldnt leave my car to a valet, just because whenever we get a nice car in, we all pretty much fight for it, than whoever gets it flies through the lot in it most likely. We had a built Sti come in the other night and the kid who got it stalled it out 3 times in the lane than proceeded to book through the lot. I myself have alot more respect for cars, so ill baby the really nice cars like they would be my own.

Another thing you learn doing valet, idc who you are and if your racist or not, working valet where I do it, turns you racist haha, even the black guy at work hates black people.
Like the other guy said, we have a dude in a bentley that tips a dollar, but people in shitboxes that will give you 5-10-20 etc. I get alot of change, etc. but we make good money, hourly wage + tips. Ive had people pissed at me for stupid things like turning on thier a/c on a 90+ degree day to cool the car down for them and such.

Everyones different, youll get the people that seem really nice and really appreciate you getting thier car but will stiff you, and the people that are snobby that tip you well, alot of the time it doesnt make sense.

always tip your local valet ;) anything over a 3$ tip and we will be your best friend and take care of you honestly, atleast where I work. Give a 5+ and your gold. Alot of the time, if you pay extra when you come in, the regular valets will not even be allowed to handle your car and it will get parked uptop.

anyway, sorry for the rant, valet parking is fun, just make sure to tip, and let us know anything wrong with your car, special about it, your stupid ass alarm that goes off when you shut your door, etc. BEFORE we park it haha.

i wonder what the valet guy thought when my buddy valet his track s13 at The Hotel in vegas. Shit couldn't make it over the speed bumps they had in the parking lot and all you heard was the diff clunking echoing in the parking structure we laughed as he drove away

There is literally nothing in my car worth stealing after someone stole the spair tire... I'd still like to know who did that, but I'll never know. No change, stock radio, kinda dirty, and not fast at all.

I don't have any qualms about letting people drive my car. Generally people understand that its your property, and that they should take care of it.

I wouldn't have troubles with people driving my car but it's legitimately a challenging vehicle to drive. I don't trust some one to not get stuck in a parking lot with a powersteeringless automobie that's a quarter inch off the ground.
