First post here, hope im not overlooked because i own a Camaro:D Got a question for you people... Im looking at this 98 240sx SE... black for $9k... Looks good, rare find... but heres the problem, Its an Auto:( How hard would it be to swap the Transmission for a manual and how much would it cost? I would go with the SR20DET with the 6spd trans(Bite on the Wallet) or the S13-14 SR engine (A sting on the wallet:rolleyes: ) but i doubt ill do that as soon as i get the car... I just want to have fun Going through the gears, so right now the main concern is the AUTO, or is there a way I can still fun with the AUTO? Any information would be helpful:)
In all honesty you can find alot of 97-98 240sx depending on where you live of course for a simular price. IMO its not worth the hastle of doing the swap, but if you still want to then check this post in the FAQ section.

The autos kind of suck, small engines and autos dont mix. The good thing is auto-manual swaps arent that hard. Do a search on this forum and check out the FAQ section.

You can shift any auto trans manually, that's what the gearshift is for.
$9k is a great deal for a '98 SE, auto or not, and it really doesn't matter much what trans it came with when you're swapping later.

Yeah, It is a Good price... First 98 SE ive seen around here in a while. the last 97-98 240sx's ive seen were all Base Model and i didnt want to deal with it. Now this one came up and I need a daily driver with a kick, and it definitely has to be RWD and the interior has to be a little more "Luxurious" than the Camaro. Thanks guys, Ill see if I can check it out some day this week:)

Don't get too over excited about a luxurious interior, although the interiors are very nice, just that my idea of luxurious includes a cupholder, but other than that S14 interiors are pretty comfy.
Just use the search and you'll find all the info you need on the auto-manual swap.
Depending on how far away you plan on getting this SR, kinda decides wether you should get the swap right away or not. It all depends if you would want to drive auto til you get the swap.
By your attitude towards manual I would assume you drive a manual camaro so you already know how to drive stick.
But it also depends on your financial situation.

Actually my SS is an auto. I have nothing against automatics, just that if im going to get a car with a smaller engine, i want to have fun with changing the gears. Ive always been into the 240sx and right now, I can make it an excuse to buy one by using it as a daily driver... until it comes time to eventually make it faster:D
