I have an abused sr20det harness for my car. What im wanting to do is rework the harness to clean it up and remove things that im not using such the o2 sensor and the few ac related lines etc. during my research ive found about 20 something wires that IMO i can remove from the harness also removing the lousy stock grounds and individually grounding each component, or atleast not have them all tied down to one spot like the factory setup. After going over the chart again i had it down to like 30 something wires not counting the grounds. i plan on running a firewall fed milspec setup for this harness so id like to get the wire count down a bit more if possible.
My main question is what else is a must have for the car to run properlly besides the obvious(Cas, Injectors, Maf, Knock, TPS, IACV and Igniter)?

I have done many SR20 tucked/loomed harnesses with only the essentials - easiest stuff to remove is P/S, AC, any auto wiring, and if you wire power to the harness yourself you can really clean up the routing.
The thing you have to watch out for when pulling out as many wires as possible is sensor grounds ~ the CAS, AAC and o2 sensor (as well as VTC in S14s) share a chassis ground, but the MAF and TPS have specific sensor grounds.
In addition to sensors, you should use a separate (and separately fused) +12V line for igniter and the rest of the harness - you need igniter signal, +12V, fuel injector power and signals, CAS +12v, 1*, 120*, AAC signal, TPS power, signal, and ground, knock sensor... then ignition-switched and constant +12V to the ECU, and grounds. I like to ground the upper harness and ECU to a common stud on the firewall (welded in) to make sure that everything's perfect, but standard chassis grounding obviously works if done right.
I'd have to look at my notes to tell you specifically how many wires you need for the upper harness, PM me if you need more specific help.

here's what i started with

here's what im thinking (this of course showing no grounds going to the ecu. all grounds going from sensors directly to ground. the ones with the green lines marked are wires i am curious about as to their need and or function.
