I recently noticed that when i shift either up or down i get a really loud knock noise from my rear like a bowling ball hitting the back....
Im wondering if i need to change my bushings or just install these to ease the bump?

What car?

If you have an S14 differential the diff bushings could be old and shitty.

You can change those out yourself.

If the bushings are fucked the subframe spacers are an ok bandaid, they'll fuck up any bushings you put in there regardless, so its worth a try.

what you have pictured above should not be a job you should be paying someone for. The slotted subframe collars are pretty damn easy to install. The only tool you need apart from basic ones is a jack.

there are TONNES, I repeat TONNES, of writeups on how to install them. Search. search. search. search. search. (I know for sure there is one on nico, because I used it)

Add shimms to your diff. Its hitting the chassing, torque twist.

We just had a 96 S14 did this exact same thing terribly bad.
Customer put in the Collars himself - didnt fix the issue.

I would recommend having the entire bushing replaced.
Nismo - Solid Rubber Bushings but theyre hard to find right now
Powerflex - Urethanes but a little expensive
Megan - Cheap All Rubber Bushings

Please let me know if you need help with some bushings.
Thanks,
Robert

wow you're fuckin close minded...

an open diff can make noise you fool.

you're probably thinking of the noises a clutch type diff makes.

well if an open diff is out of alignment or the spider gears are worn...yeah it'll clunk....

don't use the spacers. either use energy suspension poly bushing REPLACEMENTS OR solid aluminum if you really like vibration.

collars will work for a bit.but like was wut was said early they gona tear up anybushing u put in there.only things that is truly gona fix it is replacing the subframe bushing.. but its a pain in the ass to do, and its not cheap if u cant do them urself.

I had the same problem a couple months back. I installed spl subframe spacers and I was so surprised because my car felt like a whole new car. Its been great ever since. My bushings may be in better condition than yours though. When I installed the spacers I did some looking at the rubber on the bushings and they looked great. Not sure why it was clunking though but spacers did fix it.

.....I'm pretty sure that would've been enough inspiration for ANYONE to do it themselves now. LOL.

ES poly urethane replacement bushings costed me $65 lol.

timewise, it was about 6 hours of a saturday to replace them.

do it yourself as i suggested in my first post.

don't you have to cut the old ones out and machine press the new ones in??

-burn them out (propane torch from home depot).
-cut the metal sleeve out (get a hacksaw or a $100 sawzall if you feel baller)
-clean out the slot (dremel)
-install. you do not need a hydraulic press. the es bushings go in pretty smooth. i used a pry bar to wiggle it in. if you did need some sort of press you could easily use a large c-clamp and put a breaker bar on it.
