Hello everyone. I'm new here and I just recently bought my first 240. It's a 96 se and it's already sittin super low on some kind of coilovers, problem is I'm always on the bump stops. I was wondering how all the slammed guys around here sit so low without hitting the stops over every little crack. Any help is appreciated.

Because we got better coilovers...If you're hitting bumpstops, you have shitty coilovers.

No I'm not being an asshole, I'm being serious. Almost all new style coilovers out there now has 2 ways height adjustability. You lower it by lowering the whole strut, not by lowering the spring. What you have is a 1 way height adjustable coilover. It lowers the car by shifting the springs lower and letting your ride on the shocks instead of the springs. Those kinds of coilovers suck!!!

Easiest way to tell the difference between the 2 coilovers, if you have atleast 3 perch collars, then its a 2way height adjustable coilover. If you only have 2, then dump it in the trash.

I kinda figured the ones on the car were shit anyway, was just wondering if anyone did like the miata guys and put taller tophats on or what. I guess my first step with this car will be getting the suspwnsion sorted out. Thanks. Where could I get a good set of 2 way adjustables for fairly cheap? Like around $1000 or less.

Honestly, I actually peaked around and seems like all new Coilovers that came into the US market the last 2 years are all 2 way adjustable, even shitty Megan Racing coilovers are 2 way height adjustable. Everybody seems to be raving about Stance and Powered By Max coilovers lately so I'd start with those...

Are you talking about adjusting the lower strut mount and the spring preload?

I looked at the powerd by maxx, but can't find a place to actually order them. Where could I get them at?

Those coilovers may not be shitty and/or suck, they just weren't designed to be dumped like most of the bandwagon mad tyte drifters like to be. There are multiple brands that have this design, Tein/KW/Tanabe are some to name a few. They are meant for different purposes other than trying to get your body kit to scrape/hit every 1/4" rock in the road. KW's are designed like that for many different chassis' other than our's and they are far from shitty coilovers.

If you want to dump your car, you need the lower shock mount(where it bolts to the knuckles) to be adjustable. Like Flip was saying, there should be 2 lock rings under the spring perch and one right above the shock mount, the lowest point on the coilover.

Pull yours, sell them and get something that will put your car on the "ground".

True true, but if he's hitting the fucking bumpstops on it, its more than likely blown. Blown = shitty. I had Cusco Zero1s when I first got the car, fucking hated them. You can feel the fucking rears just lift off taking a corner and no they werent slammed, they just sucked.

I run Stance GR+ Pros with a ST rear swaybar. It rides alright for cheapish coilovers, but god does it love to lift tires.

Are you sure you're on the bumpstops and it's not just you being new to retarded stiff suspension?

Oh, I'm by no means saying that his shit isn't fucked. It may be, but that's something I can't determine for him. I'm just saying some coilovers aren't meant/designed to go as low as you can possibly get them.

I'd try to determine what style/kind of coilover you have right now, then go from there.

Oh I know they lift like a motherfuc*er. I can pull out from a dead stop and lift the left rear an inch or two off the ground, but It is the bump stops I'm hitting. I'm used to ungodly stiff suspensions. I used to autocross miatas. The kid that had this car before me was a drifter and had these coilovers on the car for 3-4 years already driving it everyday. I'm sure they're blown, but I'm goin by my dads shop tomorrow to get it on a rack and take a look around. Hell maybe I'll luck up and the kid just didn't know what the hell he was doing and they're not blown. Thanks again guys.
