I was doin a search about water pumps and cooling problems and ran into some crap about blown head gaskets. my 240 used to drive great but then all of a sudden the temp gauge started to rise, then it would go down as i got the rpms around 4k and held it there. i know my water pump is bad, and my plug wires keep going bad. i got no clue. help please, then smoke goes everywhere. could it just be my water pump causing all the problems?

if its white smoke then its the head gasket more than likely

white smoke out the tailpipe thats very thick, almost greasy looking is definately the rad fluid burning in your cylinders. Have someone rev it up, and go smell. It will smell sweet, like suragy. Smoke will be very thick. I once saw a car do this driving, and you literally cant see through it. I remember too thats how my parents van died.
It may only do it sometimes depending on the pressure and or vacum, sometimes it will drink it and sometimes not.
You will most likely need a new headgasket.

What do you mean you know your water pump is bad? If that's the case...of course your cooling system can't function. Know what happens when your cooling system goes? Your headgasket blows.
