I got a 95 S14 with SR20DET , BOV are HKS and i think is atmospheric..car have koyo rad and FC commander with Apexi ECU...

the state is AZ

This morning i got fuel tank of 91 octane and went waited for the car to heat up ..then drive to autozone to get a bottle of lucas tune up treatment.( i dont think it help any ) then drive the car about half an hour to the emission place, get in line line was long then rev engine to about 2krpm for a good 15 sec then repeat the next 3 mins...i got in there and tested...
but remember differewnt emission have different stadard to pass
Result..

HC--2.96 FAIL Need 0.80 to pass
CO--34.93 UBER FAIL Need 12.00 to pass
NOX--PASS with 1.46 and need 2.00
Fuel Cap--pass
EVAP SYSTEM Fail...
pressure test fail due to couln't find the EVAP SYSTEM

NOW can someone confirm to me that .. since i pass nox so im sure my cat is doing it job right ? now HC and CO i fail...what do i need to do....and can someone tell me where the EVAP SYSTEM IN A sr20det . I still have 60 days to retest and fix the problem...my car had plate and registered in my name...jst need emision to get tags..

move to a different state f**k emissions

not an appropriate answer but that will do for sure... im thinking of going to Flagstaff ( way up north about 2 hour drive ) to get my tag and drive back home cause all i need is tag and they don do emission in flagstaff

sry for the threadjack

most of cities are having smog..but only handfull of cities doesnt..such as FLAGSTAFF ..where is all cold and chill all the time...alway get freshen out buy the snow every years....im thinking of driving my self to flagstaff just to get the tag ..cause they dont take smog up there:ughd:

i pray for you if youre having evap problems. i had issues with mine on my old s14 with a KA. on the back of your report sheet from emissions, it may have info on a repair waiver. i.e., WA State requires you spend $150 to try and fix the problem. evap runs from your engine bay (left side) down thru to the rear of the vehicle. there should be a black evap canister behind the right rear wheel on the underside of the car. i got a lot of carbon junk out of my last s14 and still failed. in the end, i payed $800 to fucking Firestone and failed, but got a waiver. so know how much you have to spend before you pay a shop!
i passed emissions in WA yesterday so i could get tags for my trip to FL...in a RHD S14 with 3" downpipe, aftermarket cat, and apexi gt spec exhaust.
download the FSM for SR. its on zilvia. good luck.

if the car is registered in phoenix it has to be smogged there. you cant just go test it somewhere else. They'll ask for proof of your address too. looks like you have a possible misfire and running way to rich. for an evap leak check your gas cap first. then your canister and evap vent valve

it depends where you live and have state you live in. over here i pass emissions with flying colors with a SR few years ago. but i dont go through emissions no more. emissions laws over isnt as strict as in cali. less leinent.

change you motor oil as well it helps to pass emissions.

i failed on nox and co. all i did changed my motor oil and i passed. but about two years ago emissions laws changed over here. so any car with obd2 goes to emissions now.

good luck now

thank everyone...and i really appriciated your answer...yes i know about thew flagstaff registered thing.....im thinking of using the excuse of school....such as im going to NAU ( flagstaff school Norther ARIZONA UNIVERSITY ) and live in a dorm and blah blah blah blah PO box so that why and after igot tag i just go to their website and switch the address back to CHANDLER ...but like i said the car is already registered and just need to buy tag ....car is insured and title clean in my name... so yea.. now i hope it wont take no more then $815 buck to fix just to pass emission...I was told by a fried that there a shop in AZ that called Fuled Performance and they specified in SR and RB to PASS Smog only and i haven heard any car that went throught them and after that it failed...alot of people from az240sx.org told me that just buy a new cat..magnaflow cat that is... and just fix whatever the problem that i failled....but Fuled performance will fix my misfire and co and evap

Denatured alcohol and retard you timing. This isn't rocket science and this topic has been covered to death. Recircing your bov wouldn't hurt either.

Here ya GO:

Smog is formed when nitrogen oxides ( NOx ) and hydrocarbon gases ( HC ) are exposed to sunlight.
NOx is produced when there is to much heat in the combustion chamber.This can be caused by numerous engine conditions or by Smog component failure.
HC is fuel that went through the engine without being burned.This emission also can be caused by various engine conditions or by Smog component failure.
There are five gases that are monitored when doing a Smog Check.They are as follows.
HC = Hydrocarbons
CO = Carbon Monoxide
NOx = Nitrogen Oxides
CO2 = Carbon Dioxide
O2 = Oxygen
For Smog Check purposes HC,CO, NOx are the ones to worry about.

Hycrocarbons (HC)*
A list of common causes of HC related smog check failure:
1. Ignition Timing Advanced above specifications.Timing is measured in degrees. before or after Top dead center. If your vehicle is required to be at 10b degrees and instead is set at 16b degrees your HC emissions will increase. ( b = before top dead center ) .
2. Ignition system problems. Parts like the ignition coil, distributor cap, distributor rotor, ignition wires, spark plugs.
3. Vacuum leaks, Gasket leaks that cause vacuum leaks. Broken, disconnected or misrouted vacuum hoses.Vacuum component failure such as a power brake booster.This causes a very large vacuum leak.
4. Catalytic converter failure.
5. Air injection system problems. ( Smog pump and related components )
6. Engine damage (burned valve, low or no compression in one or more cylinders).
7. Sensor problems and or computer problems can cause a Smog Check failure.
You could go on and on for a few more pages, but these are the main causes.
Note - when your CO level is high it will usually bring HC along with it.

Carbon Monoxide (CO)*
CO is created when gasoline is not completely burned. High CO ( running rich ).
A list of common causes of CO related smog check failure:
1. Timing is not a big factor in CO production but check it anyway. Everything helps.
2. On older Carbureted vehicles you can have problems like a partially stuck choke plate.This is the moving steel plate on the top of your carburetor.
3. A leaking power valve on your carburetor can cause high CO and Smog Check failure.
4. A faulty carburetor can cause high CO and Smog Check failure.
5. A dirty air filter can cause high CO.
6. A common cause for high CO is a faulty Oxygen Sensor. This sensor tells the computer how to fine tune the air fuel ratio.
7. Other sensors like the M.A.P.sensor , C.T.S. sensor or the Air flow meter can also effect the CO level.
8. A faulty air injection system can cause high CO. This is the Smog pump and related components.
9. A faulty Catalytic Converter can cause high CO and Smog Check failure.
10. If your car has been running rich ( high CO ) you should change your oil after you get it repaired. When you have rich condition all the fuel cannot be burned, you start to saturate the motor oil with CO and HC. This in itself can also cause a rich condition.

Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)*
NOx is formed inside the combustion chamber when excessive heat is present.
A list of common causes of NOx related smog check failure:
1. As usual check the timing first. Advanced timing can cause extra NOx.
2. The next thing to check is the EGR system.This system is designed to reduce Nox. It consists of a EGR valve, vacuum hoses, one or more vacuum switching valves or solenoids. Its job is to reroute a small amount of exhaust gas back into the engine to help reduce combustion chamber temperature. Not all vehicles have an EGR system.
3. Next thing to check is the air / fuel ratio. If the vehicle is running to lean, NOx emissions will increase.
4. Some possibilities are a restricted fuel filter, low fuel pressure, vacuum leaks, oxygen sensor, load sensor such as a map sensor, air flow meter.
5. Check the cooling system. An extra increase in water temperature will increase NOx production.
6. A defective catalytic converter can also increase NOx. The Cat. reduces NOx that has already been produced.
7. Check to see that the air coming into the engine is not over heated. Some vehicles have a vacuum controlled air valve which switches the incoming air to hot air from the outside of your exhaust manifold.This should only happen when the engine is cold. If this system malfunctions and sends hot air all the time.Your Nox could go up. This system is called T.A.C. ( Thermostatic air cleaner )
8. There is another system similar to the one above called E.F.E. ( Early fuel evaporation ). This system routes hot air under the intake manifold. This helps keep the fuel in the vapor state. If stuck in the hot mode Nox emissions could increase and cause a Smog Check failure.
