Hello everybody.
I have a question for those of you with a short ram intake on your KA, or anyone with knowledge regarding this subject.

When my car ran, I was experimenting with a few different short ram ideas, however, I always had idle problems. With some of the setups the motor would not idle at all, and with others it would sputter, or just shake a little every now and then, but that was still unacceptable to me.

I know the IACV hose is supposed to enter the intake tube at least one foot away from the MAFS, and I know this was the problem.

That leads me to my question.
I have been thinking, what if I 'cheated' the MAFS and instead of having the idle hose enter the intake tube at least a foot and a half away from the MAFS (I like to be safe), if I just used a hose at least a couple feet long, and then I would have it enter close to the MAFS?

Would this work, and in turn allow me to run a very short intake, or does the volume of the intake tube versus the volume of a just the hose come into play in this situation?

Sorry, I would love to try this out, but my car does not run at the moment, that is why I am wondering if anyone happens to have any input.

Thank you for any information.

I made one for my car back in '96 and never had any problems with idle, I ran that for nearly a decade. The nipple for the IACV was maybe 8 inches from the MAF, but I also redid the vacuum routing and ran two hoses, one for the IACV and one for the IAA (they share the same outlet stock). Both were side by side though on the pipe. I think yours may have another issue as I've seen plenty like that too, I even remember a picture of a guy who just left his open with a breather filter on it. Not sure how it ran, but it must have somewhat.

Hmm interesting. Mine would idle perfectly fine with the stock and a stock-size intake, but whenever I tried out the short rams, the closer the inlet for the IACV/IAA was to the MAF, the worse it would idle. I also tried putting a breather on it, but that just made it die instantly during idle.
I guess I will try experimenting some more when I get the car running.
