well here is my problem....getting it to pass isnt but! The stock car had roughly 165000 miles on it... when i got the sr i also got the silvia face wth my tach and odometer.... the odometer reads 147000... some smog places are kinda ghetto here and just do a quick test and dont care whats in the car as long as it passes.... my only problem if you didnt realize is that when i pass and he prints out my sheet... its gonna say the car has 147000 miles on it... now is the DMV gonna drill me or whatever it is they do about odometer fraud or... am i just paranoid? Or am i gonna have to spend 80 bucks apose to 20 for my smog?

I don't know California specific laws, but "odometer fraud" really only comes into play when you sell a car. If you were to sell it without informing the buyer that the mileage listed was not actual, that would be illegal.

If the Cali DMV is anything like the Maryland MVA, they have their heads way too far up their asses to notice. I specifically checked "NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE" on my title application when I bought my S13 (the previous owner replaced the cluster when something broke). When they printed my title, they printed it saying my mileage was actual. So... yeah.

AKA: he's not in CA. well, at least according to his location: he's not.
Anyway, ask DMV if you can explain it like this: Your tach broke, so you bought a new cluster to fix it.
Many cars over 10y old or over 100k miles are sold NAM (not actual mileage), as some cars have odometers that can't physically display over 100k miles, and for a car 10ys old, the resale value is not likely to be as high, so a person has a much smaller chance of being defrauded.

Or you can pull the trip reset button (cover) out, so you have a little bit of space, then use a piece of strong metal wire, bend it a bit, put it through the reset button so you can touch the numbers, now just use the wire to move the number until they are closer to you actual milage.

Disclaimer: I have never done this on my car. ;)
