I'm doing this on behalf of a friend looking to swap out his old POS SOHC KA which has seen better days. (I'm personally content with my DOHC KA :D) He likes the sound of the a pinned RB and the BOV of the CA and RB. But the originallity of a VG cost and power for the price and all being NA came in as an option. I had said that the CA is a little wimpy next to the RB and the RB with a nice new greddy style intake manifold looks tits next to the VG and CA any day. But he had read that the RB20 has a ceramic turbo and that they have been known to blow up the turbine or something. Keep in mind if I were doing this swap I would be researching the piss out of this but... This is for my buddy that doesn't have internet. If some one would chime in there opinion on these options that would be great. My 2cents went with the RB20 for being the best bang for the buck.
SOME QUICK PRO's AND CON's WOULD BE GREATLY APREACIATED ^^)

You state that it's ANOTHER one of these threads, yet you still made it.
That not just lazy, it's fucking stupid as well.
You want :2c: worth? Tell your "buddy" that if he can't afford internet, then he needs to stick with a SOHC and be happy. After he saves enough money for a decent connection, he can spend his days doing his own damn research while he saves his money again. It's not like there isn't an overabundance of information on all of this readily available to anyone that isn't completely lazy/stupid.
Have a great day. Kurwelcomebyefucku!

id go CA18 or sr20.. some people who have RBs usually have them to brag about having a ubber skyline motor. VG would be cool too but i forget if theres clearance issues, esp if its gonna be turbo.
bahhh i live in cali, id rebuild the sohc into a stealth turbo setup

if your 'buddy' can't afford internet, then he shouldn't be able to afford a car, then he shouldn't be able to afford a swap...etc...

VG is WAY too much work to swap into an s-chasis, for the amount spent you can build more power out of an RB/CA, so that's out of the question, CA's put out about 130whp so unless you want to replace your single slammer with a motor that sounds cool with same hp thats out of the question, so tell him to decide wether to go with an rb or sr.....

You really are an idiot, aren't you?
Go away, lick your wounds. Come back in a few weeks after you've done some research.
Fucking kids these days.

I wouldn't do the VG. Ever.
I would not bother with an RB20. RB25 if anything. RB20's have a terrible head design, that wont accommodate a high HP build in the future. If left stock, it's an OK motor, but not something I'd spend my money on.
I would say go with a CA18 for a cheaper swap option. No custom mounts required. Little wiring modifications, and overall a pretty decent motor.
If money isn't too big a deal, there's always an SR20 to consider. Good power, lots of aftermarket support, and it's JDM tyte. Motorsets are often more expensive though, due to popularity.
But seriously, it all comes down to what he wants out of the car. reliability/function/HP/ blah blah blah. Also on what he wants to spend. Source out different motors and see the cost on them, and also look into the aftermarket world for product availability.
That'd be my first step.
