Japanese Version of Altima?

what is the japanese version of the altima. im not good with the diff gen altimas, but the 95' altima IIRC was based on the bluebird? and i dont know about the rest of em, but what is the new 2002 model years based on?

some cars that are made here isnt available in japan.

for example: Honda Civic Si Coupe. in japan there isnt a 2dr civic.

The first generation Altima was, though. At least the body style was, anyway - sold as the Bluebird (U13 chassis).

It had a few different engines available, I think SR18DE and SR20DEs mostly... also the SR20DET in AWD form in the Bluebird SSS.

The second generation Altima was the same U14 chassis as the next gen Bluebird, but the styling was different.

The current Altima isn't sold in Japan at all. Though it's the same chassis as the new Teana, which is also the same as the new US Maxima.

Altima's and Maxima's are not sold in japan. too bad we can't have cefiro's, or maybe even chaser's. even if we did, we probably would've gotten the watered down type. oh well.

The past two generations of Cefiro have been identical to the US Infiniti I30 (Maxima). Only the A31 Cefiro was an interesting car.

No US Laurels, ever.

The new Infiniti M45 is based on the Gloria.

Just like US car companies, they pick names that sound good. What sounds good to a Japanese-speaking person is different from what sounds good to an English-speaking person.

Umm.. maybe I'm bieng stereotypical.. but I don't think Japanese people can pronounce American car names.

I doubt cars would sell well in a place that can't even pronounce the names correctly. This is my theory on what happened with GM's Daiwoo, and their Leganza, and Nubira... crap I tell you.

Jeff is right about them being able to pronounce American names. My given name is Robert. (I don't go by that and only a few even know) They say "Lobelt".

Seerady = Sileighty?

The 88 Chevy Nova was a Toyota Corolla. Chevrolet and Toyoda combination could easily have been a "Toyolet".:D

The names Fairlady and Skyline don't really make that much sense for Japanese cars considering that there is no equivalent for the letter L in the Japanese language. Also the Japanese language has no sound for si, so silvia makes less sense.

ummm... they have both in Japan they are just tagged different. The new Maximas are labeled Cefiro and Cefiro Executive (Infiniti I35), and the new Altima I cannot remember what it is called in Japan

Yea. I was thinking about that when I asked a Chineese food delivery guy what car he drove (it was a Corolla), and he said "Co-wo-wa."
