I am having a hell of a time installing my B&M short shifter.

I believe it was designed for RB20 (discontinued), but am installing it on a KAe tranny. (I swapped motors).

It was on the exact same model of tranny before, and worked fine.

Now, no matter what I do the shifter either pops out, or won't engage anything but 3rd and 4th, the "middle gears". somehow it isn't seating right.

I called B&M and since they sell it already assembled,(atttached to shifter plate) they won't help me as I only pulled the shifter. WTF? what if someone ever wanted to shange there tranny oil?

Does anyone have this shifter?

Shifter Plate (NOTE- I made a silicone gasket for it...)

And these are the three pieces that go on each side of the shifter.
A bracket, spring, and little circular thing. I'm sure I've tried all combos.

I must be missing something? Can someone who has one take a look and see what order the pieces go in?

It would be much appreciated!:drama:

I don't know of anyone who's taken one apart. To add fluid they expect you to use the OE route, the fill plug on the side. A lot of people drill/tap the plate and put a plug in it, eliminating the need to pull the shifter out or apart.

the pieces on the bottom picture. you need two sets. other than that your not missing anything. the shifter part fits in between the cylinder thing and the spring inside that sleeve thing

yeah like russ said, you know...... something about filling up the transmission through the FILL HOLE and draining it through the DRAIN HOLE

all seems to make sense. ive got a B&M, works like a charm. maybe you're disassembling/reassembling it incorrectly???

ok heres what you do. you put the sleeve(bracket) in first on both sides then you put the circular thing in(so it rests on the outcropping part inside the bracket. then you put the two sides of the shifter in. then you put the spring on top of the shifter and screw the top of the shifter on? pm me if your still confused

i know this thread is old, but i came across it while looking for other info on this shifter and noticed the above post is incorrect. You do install the spring retainers first, but the next step is not to put the washers in. you drop the shifter down so it rests on the housing. Then install the washers followed by the springs and top plate.
