I'm trying to install my aem ram intake when I removed the stock intake I found that a big hose was atatched to the bottom of the stock intake. now the AEM intake dosn't have a place for this hose so i'm wondering why is that hose there and more importantly what should i do about it. If someone can explain to me what that thing does i'll be very gratefull

It's to a secondary resonator, it's unnecessary.
Fuggeddaboutit, it's nothing to worry about.

so should I block it or just leave it as it is

You can actually remove the little box underneath that hole. The only time it'd be necessary to worry about that hole in the intake is if you reinstalled it, at which time you'd have to put it back onto that resonator, or just block the hole. I have duct tape on mine.

damn so ur positive you can remove that, b/c mine whistels real loud. it sucks a lot of air. so i made my own filter (fishtank filter and steel mesh) and put it over the box and secured it with a ziptie.
it works fine. and its not so loud, but i'd rather remove it all together.
someone told me that was called the charcoal box? somethig bout making emissions nicer by putting the air into the intake to be burnt. i dunno?
well us positive i can remove it?

I removed mine and covered the hole with duct tape.

hi guys, new to the board, not new to the 240

there are several things her ebeing discussed.

THe first box with the 1" tube, sits next to the battery, that is called an "intake resonator", take that whole thing out, its held in place by 3 screws, all on the radiator fan shroud

if your new intake doesnt have a nippe for it, you're all set, but if it does, take the black part of a picture film canister, slap it over the stock nipple, that works fine

CoasTek-what you are doing is creating a vacuum leak, take the breather filter or wuteve is on there and put on the film canister container

the charcoal canister is another emmisions device located next to the stock airbox/relay box

That has several vacuum lines running to it, you can choose to take that off but you must also cap off the lines for them that run underneath the t/b

hope that hepls

Would it hurt anything to just leave that hose that goes under the intake unplugged? If it connects to a resonator, it won't affect anything but sound right?

if the air coming into the engine was measured by a MAP no, but since our car utilizes an Air flow metering device, only air that travels through the MAF is usable, IE you can't leave that open, its called a "vacuum leak"

that hose shouldnt be a vaccuum hose... the one he is talking abt... i believe it is a resinator
it does nothing
i did a KA24DE which had it and i left it alone and no problem

i did a KA24E and it didnt have that hose there but i had trouble with the fittings of the vaccuum lines (needed to get some plastic joints)

are you kidding me!!!

a big gaping hole in the intake tube is nothign to worry about, yeah im impressed by your knowledge

Methinks he meant it's OK to leave the HOSE open. The hose goes to a little sealled bucket next to the fan shroud (ye olde resonator). Leaving the HOLE open would be a bad idea, but if your aftermarket intake pipe doesn't have a hole there, nothing to worry about.
