nice work!
did you get the "white" bulbs and they came out blue?
does the cluster light up evenly? or is it like the pics, somewhat uneven?

nope, its a diode so you need to make sure the polarity is correct. (+,-)

They are white, but has a blueish tint. They light up evenly, its just cuz of the cell phone pic

^ It's not worth the hassle. Just get Warm White 5 LED 194s. Cool White 5 LED 194s offer a great look with minimal blue coloring at all.

s13 / s14 is 3 T10 / 194
and 1 T5 / 74 for the clock.
some people argue that you need 5 194/t10 and more T5s but thats not the case.
the other 2 194s will not illuminate and leave the warning lights red just change the clock if you want and its cheaper.
all above pictures were done with 3 t10s and 1 t5

What kind of LED bulb we need for the warning lights/indicators?
For the 74/T5 is it the wedge or twist-it kind for the clock?

As long as you get the 120* Wide Angles you're fine. Minimal hot spots. The 5 LED 194s are where it's at though if you want an insanely bright display.
importdude, sounds like you have a loose bulb.

All the SuperBrightLEDs I've gotten for my friends have given the exact same results.
If you're buying shit off eBay then it explains a lot why you would get insane hot spots. Not to mention if they're not 120* wide angle bulbs they'll also produce a lot of hot spots. 120* Wide Angle 194s from Super Bright LEDs provide great light distribution and a cheap upgrade from the stock lighting. Though after seeing the 5 LED 194s from Super Bright LEDs it's definitely the way to go. I wish they made them in 74s so that I can use them with my Type X cluster.

I have used B1 Hybrid bulbs, hyper white ones from eBay, they are a pretty popular brand and I'd reccomend that for the best, brightest , and most even lighting.

I've posted quite a bit of information about LED's in S13 clusters. Take a look at this thread:
http://zilvia.net/f/chat/57215-red-guage-cluster-needles-how-2.html
Included are pictures of my cluster, front and back, plus illuminated. I used wide-angle LEDs from superbrightleds.com. The illumination is very nice and uniform. There is a blue tint to the gauge faces themselves. Nissan did this to make the gauges more of a pure white by counteracting the inherent yellowness of incandescent bulbs. The information I posted starts on page 2 and continues for a couple of pages.
Don't buy random junk from ebay. Buy from a legit shop like superbrightleds, they even provide data sheets for all of their products. I have purchased from them several times, and have always been satisfied. Prices are reasonable too.

i need this, but i want my needle to be a different color......two years later lol
axiomatik
04-18-2011, 10:59 AM
then you can mount an LED on the 'legs' that illuminate the needles. It will take more custom work than just plugging in a new bulb, but it is certainly doable. By default, the needles are illuminated by the background lighting, with the light funneled through 'light pipes'. If you mount LEDs on the ends of the light pipes, the needles will be the color of those LEDs instead.

get an LED, solder on the resistor, use hot glue gun, and make led sit where that bulb should sit.. stick LED probes into oem connector.

lol Norm, too lazy to get 74 LED bulbs and be the guinea pig for us? I seriously think it wouldn't be worth it. 194s are powerful enough to emit some great light and to fit multiple LEDs so you don't get hot spots. Not sure if there are 74 bulbs that have enough LEDs to prevent that.
