So I got an 89 shell for free in rough condition. Bought a dohc motor set, replaced the headgasket, etc etc..

So anyways in my final stretch to finish my car I've got the motor in and on the mounts..

I noticed that the transmission mount doesn't line up..like the transmission is sitting 1-1.5" too far forward or something..

So could I have some how, some way put the motor mounts on the wrong sides...or done anything to make the whole motor/transmission sit too far forward?

Here's the crossmember and mount:

Here's where the shifter sits with a floor jack holding it as high as it goes:

^You can see that it sits kinda forward

Also one of the 4 bolts that holds the transmission on is broken I guess...like the stud is stuck in the car and nothing is poking out...and drilling it out isn't working because it's too tough..any ideas on that?

Transmission isn't sitting properly or engine mounts been shifted or crossmember; try loosening the engine mounts then place a jack under the tranny and try to move it around until you can cross thread the bolts in place also rubber mallet works

Put a long Flathead in there on one side then put a bolt in on the other end. Do again on the reverse side and tah dah your cross member is in.

I've moved the motor mounts around and stuff, but it still sits forward...one of the mounts is torn though, so maybe that isn't helping much?

I would change motor mounts out and put non torn ones in there if I were you.

Yeah...looking for non torn ones now..but I don't see how that would make the motor sit forward that inch..

if the motor itself it slightly shifted....that could cause it

I don't remember off the top of my head which way it sits... but is it backwards? And iirc the automagic and manual transmissions have different crossmembers, make sure it's right.

My friend and I decided the motor looked right, the shifter was at the right point, and everything looked okay..so I'm assuming I somehow got an auto crossmember.

its the wrong mount 100% :) and motor mounts are the same left and right, you can interchange them so you didn't get that wrong

Damn ever since i put my nismo tranny mount on the crossmember does not like to line up at all but with alot of yelling it lines up enough to get the bolts in.
