download speed question

I just went to speedtest.net and tested my download speed and it says that i am at 18.17 Mb/s yet utorrent is only getting 121 Kb/s. can anyone tell me why it is so much slower and more importantly how to improve this?

correct me if im wrong, but dosent the sites server that you are downloading from play a big part in how fast you actually download the file at? Because i know some sites i download at 600+kb a second and then some 110+kb a second.

yeah i believe so too, doesnt matter if you got super fast connection, your only as fast as you are allowed by the server. Long as you keep your shit optimized you are good.

forward your ports and you should be good if there is a lot of seeders. portforward.com
and just because you download at 18mbs does not mean your going to get that speed, use speakeasy.net/speedtest it shows how fast you actually download on the bottom after the test

Probably not enough seeds. Are you cable or DSL, or fiber optic? You might have to limit your upload--if you max your upload, the download speed can sometimes suffer (usually just with cable from my experiences)
