Im thinking of buying a 89 240 hatch and it has the stock motor in it. Im not one for getting ref'd so I want to go with a stock motor. Is this engine worth keeping in the car? Also, can I bolt the ka24de right in using the old headers and intake?
Also how high does the stock engine rev in a 89?
Thanks for all the input guys
checked the search but didnt get exactly what I was looking for.

Get a KADE. intake, exhaust, motor mounts, and some other stuff are not interchangeable. Its oh so worth it.

they do not. from the factory the DE has +15 more horsepower than the E. the single cam has a lower redline point (6k) where the DE (7k).
to me the dual cam feels like it has a smoother takeoff rather than putting all of its power in one gear like the single cam(2nd gear)
i swapped form single to dual. i then built my KADE using bolt ons like a full lightweight pully set, headers, full exhaust, intake, and high flow cat. i love the car now
the intake is not interchangable same with the throttle body and ps line, throttle cable. other than that its just the same(installation wise)

of course i have problems with smog lol. but thats because i ripped out the EGR, have headers, and a high flow cat. otherwise it would pass

The ka24e was easier for me to work on but the ka24de is worth driving around in. Both motors will work well if you want to stay stock. Only reason I swapped my single to dual is because my single overheated and I blew it up just to get home.

Yeah the ka24e is a little easier to work out than the ka24de, but both motors are still incredibly easy to work on. Take my word for it. Probably the easiest motors I have ever worked on, and I've worked on some bull. Get the DOHC after your SOHC gives up the ghost.
