Im trying to figure out the differences in install/general information. Ive been searching and the GTR pump flows well, is OEM (reliable), and fits just like stock.

The walbro on the other hand, is what everybody and their brother use.

I have a GTR pump and want to replace the stock S13 pump. People have been telling me that I need a FPR, and some people say I don't.

I have some 555 injectors/ Z32 MAF/ RomTune to put on eventually as well....

Can somebody please set me straight?

Thanks
Jake

The GTR pump will support about 400hp, the Walbro will support closer to 600. You don't need a FPR, hell you don't need a FPR with a Walbro(I'm not running one). The GTR pump isn't a bad option(it's the same as Z32 TT btw) but are you really gonna call a 15+ year old fuel pump reliable?

im gonna jump in here for a moment because this is going to wind up being a completely obnoxious thread full of uneducated responses...

use the GTR pump...why you might ask???? because i bet 90% of you guys dont realize that with walbro pumps...if you EVER EVER EVER run them below 1/4 of a tank...guess what...youre burning your fuel pump up...even at half tank the fuel pump isnt being cooled properly

walbro pumps flow a good amount of fuel yes...however...theyre CHEAP!!!! period...end of story...i went thru 4 walbro pumps in a matter of 3 1/2 years...it wasnt until before my 4th pump took a shit that i learned from quite a few people that walbros are just garbage for various reasons...about a month after i learned about how much of a waste of money walbros really are...my 4th pump died out...after that i bit the bullet and bought a denso TT supra pump...guess what...IT STILL WORKS LIKE THE DAY I GOT IT!!! (and that was over 3 years ago this summer)

the GTR pump is an OEM pump...like my denso pump...it can deal with being run below 1/4 of a tank without burning itself up...if the GTR pump is anything like the denso supra pump (which im SURE it is given it powered nissans "super" car) the pump will hold up longer than your SR will...the GTR fuel pumps are made to a standard that is set by OEM specifications...the walbro is NOT...the GTR pump is made to handle variable fuel situations that have been track tested before the car was put into production...the walbro has NOT

basically what im saying is that the OEM GTR pump would be a much better choice for you than wasting your money on a walbro (and somehow i doubt youre ever going to max out the flow rate of the pump...i dont see a lot of 400-500hp SRs floating around on zilvia...and if youre going to be making that kind of power...an intank pump is NOT the way to be feeding your motor fuel from the tank)

oh one other thing...if you decide to run the GTR pump...you will need to run a relay from your battery to your sending unit so the pump will receive a full 12 volts of electricity...if you do not do this...your pump will only get between 7-9 volts which will cause a lean sitaution in your motor...even with walbros its recommended that you do this as S13 wiring is stupid thin

or you could just go play with the big boys and get an inline Aeromotive pump ;)

btw...do yourself a favor...get an Aeromotive -6an FPR with liquid filled gauge...i dont give a shit what your friends tell you...NISMO FPRs are garbage...pretty much all the small little JDM FPRs are crap...buy yourself something from either SARD or Aeromotive that has a GAUGE!!! you will need this to tune your fuel right once you install your new fuel pump

My sentiments exactly. Now, I can't attest to the fact that the walboro's are garbage, as I've never owned one, but I love the reliability factor that comes w/buying OEM parts. I too own the denso TT surpra pump(279.00 from the dealer, brand new) and I've had it for 5 yrs w/no issues.

Are you sure you didn't buy a fake Walbro or Ebay Walbro? There are numerous copies out there that don't last long. I think you got shafted. I know of numerous 500+ HP cars using Walbros with 0 issues.

I've known guys running walbro for freakin years. Never heard any of them bitch about it. This was even before the whole JDM Mad Dorifto SR20DET swap craze came to swoop. Everybody I've known including me, all ran walbro and had 0-issues. How do you have 4 pumps go out on your in less than 4 yrs? Sounds like you screwed something up installing it.

my walbro took a shit on me! Count me as one! haha and trust me my walbro was not generic! Denso FTW!!!

I have heard good and bad things about walbro fuel pumps. I guess it depends on you luck of either getting a good one or crappy one. I also heard Chevy uses walbro fuel pump on their cars and ever since i been working at a auto part store. Chevy has some junk ass fuel pumps.

this was back in 2003...before "fake" 240sx parts began coming on the scene...had to buy my pumps thru various vendors i knew back in the day...i HATE the use generic parts with cars in general...if youre going to do it...do it right and buy from a trusted manufacturer

point being for my whole rant...ive been building these money pits of cars for almost 7 1/2 years now...on all my walbros...they were wired correctly and all used the brand new fuel sock that came with them...they were set in place correctly and flowed correctly...outside of the fact theyre junk fuel pumps...im in vegas where it gets fuking HOT!!! so im sure the heat from the roads out here didnt help much either

and i have a nismo FPR with a gauge between the filter and fuel rail :P

dont play with the adjustment too much...youll seize the diaphram...nismo FPRs are known to either get stuck open or closed...i cant tell you how many peoples FPRs ive had to replace cause they cheaped out and bought the nismo unit instead of listening to me and buying an aeromotive or sard

Whether you buy a Walbro or OEM pump is strictly a preference. There are countless stories of people running them with out issues for years. I've used and still have a Walbro in my car for over 2 years now and have not had an issue. However, if I do have an issue with the pump I'll be switching it out with the Tomei unit. It flows about the same, but it's an OEM quality pump.

There's always going to be a trade off when you buy parts that are cheaper than it's counterpart for much more deniro. The Walbro is one of these and it's a cheap option for people looking to upgrade and not spend a fortune on a fuel pump, with it being readily available.

I haven't touched it since I initially adjusted it. I'm actually planning on upgrading to an Aeromotive unit when my student loan comes in :P
