now if you turbo a stock KA with out rebuilding the motor you just turned the KA into an expensive boat anchor.

What if it was just a daily driver, no track use or hard driving.

Also would it just be better to save for a swap?

I had a no name manifold, and it never cracked.

The reliability of the manifold is really up to the quality of welds, there are a lot of different companies on ebay so who knows which ones are good?

do you intend on rebuilding your motor? because your gunna break it just putting a turbo on it.. and theres really no point if your not gunna track it. waste of money.

disagree with the not turboing a dd. granted you wont get the most out of it and make the vehicle less reliable, but damn my dd is the most fun car I've even been in. Going to work is exciting every time!

As for the ebay kit, you have to pay to play. will it work, most likely. Will it be reliable? maybe.... Will you blow an old ass KA trying to boost it on a budget? Yes, eventually

gonna turbo my s14 dd when tax season comes around ..... i agree with you when u say its fun driving a turbo car, true you dont get to use its full potential and its less reliable ..... but to have that power under your feet price less .... also good to punk lil teenagers thinking they know wassup .... SLEEPER BITCH!!!!!

I SAY GO FOR IT!!! SR or KA turbo regardless your gonna be spending money .... probably more down time and money with an SR when it starts falling apart.

Theres no such thing as a "sleeper" 240 anymore, everyone just assumes you have an SR :cj:. Not to mention things like this are what give all "import" drivers a bad persona.

Thats right, listen to the guy who is sans turbo car. He knows what hes talking about!

Back on topic though, if you really want a super cool 1337 turbo car just throw a turbo on your KA. Just make sure its big so it makes cool noises! Also make sure to check youtube for the loudest BOV possible. It sounds to me regardless of which route you go, your car will be for sale with a blown engine by the end of the year.

It's just always has been my dream to have a turbod 240, yea mainly for the bad ass factor and just have a fun time driving it around. And when I mention I probably will only dd it. I meant it in a sense that knowing it's eBay obviously I'm not gonna push a cheap setup. I just want a nice turbo with decent gain to open it up every now and then but majority of the time I'll be going to work and school. I wouldn't take it hard like it was a real deal setup. Do you think that could be done?

Considering all the odds if it being a dd and it being babied. I definately know eBay is never a placedor parts. But real talk do you think it would be reliable for the cool factor and not performance factor. As much as I already know I'm gonna get raped with flame just give me an honest answer haha.

And if I mispelled something or typod I'm on my cell phone. Thanks

And also, I'm not trying to go the cheapest way possible. Granted that I can aford it, I'll do anything I can to have the eBay kit run reliably but I just want to know if thats even possible and if I should just save the money for an actual swap

I would just get an actual set-up..."you get what you pay for". I don't like to buy from e-bay, because what I hear is that its a 50/50 split if you get something that will work or break.

From my experience...do it right the first time. good luck.

thanks for your honest opinion, do you know of any companies that sell decent kits for a decent price, and how much am I looking at to get this said kit.

What exactly would I need to do to rebuild or beef up the motor for it to take the stress of a turbo?
Than again

You should probably get the head freshened up at a place that does rebuilds, along with new headgasket, arp studs, CP pistons (i forget the compression rate), new rods, and not neccessary, but cams (like pdm-racing) would definitely help your turbo perform better. there is really no cheap way to turbo your KA or any motor for that matter and have a decent reliability rate. you're going to have to upgrade your fuel system (SR injectors, adjustable FPR, walbro fuel pump) and getting a TUNE (jim wolf tech) is in my opinion the most important factor. a tune alone will run you 5 bills. IF you do get an ebay kit, I'd get the welds checked at a machine shop and mayb weld in supports at the gasket. and don't be surprised if projectrdm or ixfixi comes in here to blast you for asking such a well covered topic lol

I'll throw you a setup I was looking at:
Megan KA24DE turbo manifold
SR T25 turbo
SR elbow and downpipe
all neccessary lines (dump tube, oil feed, vacuum, etc.)
BOV
SR injectors
adjustable FPR
Walbro fuel pump
SR SMIC
JWT tune

A non built KA-T daily is instant blood pressure boost. You will be so stressed.
