Here, in the dulcet tones of our very own Stephen Totilo, is a narrated glimpse at the EyePet, the Playstation 3's camera-based augmented reality... pet?

These two videos show the beta version of the game which is being shown off today in New York. The game is set for a holiday release, Sony Computer Entertainment told Kotaku. The game will be sold both as a bundle with the camera and on its own. Both versions will come with a card used to interact with the virtual pet.

Check back later in the week for Totilo's hands-on preview or right now for our E3 take on the virtual pet. Below is a second video showing off the cool x-ray feature

^ Those graphics ARE awesome. What game in this age uses live action like that, where you control real people and not CGI puppets? Miss the old MK days.

Anyway, lots of good upcoming stuff coming to the console. Microsoft's Natal has a similar thing to the Eyepet in the form of Milo.

I wonder if--when porn will capitalize on the whole augmented reality... o________O

you should check out the xbox 360's take on this with that project natal, instead of controlling a pet you interact with a CGI person that feeds off your expressions, and also looks at your drawings.

->YouTube - E3 2009: Project Natal Milo demo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPIbGnBQcJY)

hate to be the skeptic, but i'm pretty sure that milo project for natal is full of b.s. molyneux's has a real penchant for having huge claims at the start of a project, and then publishing something far less ambitious (cough, fable)

we can't even get voice synth to sound natural, let alone teach a computer how to construct sentences in english and understand what they mean... and yet milo is supposed to be able to carry on a conversation with natural sounding vocal intonations and inflections, formulating responses based on emotional information from the user taken via audio and visual recognition by the camera.

um, yeah right. the demo is staged.
