1 long flash.
2 long flashes
3 short flashes
4 short flashes
5 short flashes
...any help? There isn't a code 3, 4, 5, 10 or 20.

All codes are two digit codes.. Go back and count the codes again.. Count the number of long flashes (this will be the first digit to identify the code), then count the short flashes (this will be the second digit).
Example: LONG LONG LONG SHORT SHORT SHORT SHORT
The example above shows code 34 (three longs and four shorts).
Keep watching, if you have more than one code, then the series will differ to represent multiple codes. Write all the codes down. Once all the codes have been displayed, it will start over..
Now take those codes and refer to your FSM (Factory Service Manual), or post back and we can do the work for you..

just to piggy back on this info
- this is general for 89-98 Nissan but most apply to the SR20 motor.
- to set car into diag. mode, with the key in the "ON" position, turn potentometer screw on ECU fully clockwise, then turn it fully counterclockwise. The LED on the ECU will begin to flash.
- first digit = LONG blink; second digit = SHORT blink (ex: 1... 1... 1... 1... then 1-1-1 equals 43 = TPS)

Nobody helped this guy...
The flashes are for different modes.
You need to be in mode 3 to pull codes, and then mode 4 resets the ECU. This is only for SOHC models.
Basically, wait till it flashes 3x, then turn the knob back to home.

sohc ecu for sures. if you want to pull codes, turn the diagnostic screw after it has flashed 3 times
