I know this is kind of a pointless thread but considering I am dumping a lot of money into this I want to get some opinions. I recently purchased a 1998 180sx front clip with the motor. I dropped it off at my friends shop to do the swap for me as I don't have any room in my place to do the swap. He compression tested the motor and it came out 145 across the board. Its not ideal but the motor hasn't ran in probably 5 years. My question number 1 is will it possibly go up after being ran for a while since it hasn't been used for that long and number 2 is it worth sliding on? Its my DD and I can't afford to have the car down for that long. Or should I just daily the car and get all the shit ready to build the motor? Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If its 145 all the way across do not even worry. First off the compression levels are even that's a good sign. Second off 145 cold is not bad at all. Yes it will come up when the engine is run and it has good oil pressure. Quite often Engine Importers pump oil into cold engines when they compression test engines for people because it pumps the numbers up to what they would be if the engine was not cold. I would not worry if I were you. A excellent SR is in the 165 range all the way across. 145 cold are excellent cold numbers.

As far as you needing a daily driver? It all depends on how much experience or ability you have with doing swaps and if you are prepared. In other words a daily is not a bad idea when your building a car. There is always unexpected things that can come up, causing a slow down in the whole process.

I'm running an sr out of a 98 kouki rps13, and it took us a couple of months to get everything in order to street it. During the meantime, I kept a reliable jetta as my dd until my 240 was ready to be daily driven. Buy a little honda or something while you build your 180.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I definetly need to get a daily but its good to hear that 145 isn't bad....I thought it was a bit low.
