That, and no 180SX was ever sold with a KA. Hahahah I have a red-top KA!
180s were sold with iterations of the CA and SR motors. 240s were sold with KAs.

94 was only convertible

there are NO 180sx w/ KA. so dont ever say that again.
USA and Canada is a 240sx ONLY. dont say 180sx, because its not a 180sx.

how can you love something before you know it?
that's like marrying the girl you meet on "married in america"
please....learn first, then love.

no, 180sx is a COMPLETELY different car
diffferent engine
diffferent interior
RHD
NEVER in the USA

u SHOULD say 'S13'
that covers all 89-94 240sx

s13=chassis code.
s13=180sx
s13=89-94 240sx
s13=lazy person/smart person

now if you talk later year say 's14'
s14=chassis code
s14=Silvia
s14=95-98 Silvia
s14=95-98 240sx
s14=lazy person/smart person

considered yourself schooled. have a nice day kids.

NO!!!!!!! Dont say S13 for the love of goooooddddddd!!!

Say RS13 for fastback and S13 for coupe. So much easier. Or if you do have an SR in your car: RPS13 and PS13. Dman you Dousan!!!

R: Fastback
P: SR20DE(T)
M: KA24E iirc
H: KA24DE (maybe the other way around)
S: Chassis code
13: model

Mix and match as you wish...

Don't mind Dousan. He's a smart guy (pay attention to what he wrote about the models), but kind of an asshole sometimes ;-)

Anyhow, confusing or misguided posts irritate folks around here pretty quick. You MUST clarify the car you are talking about. Don't say 180sx or Silvia when you mean 240sx. Honestly, we sometimes don't know what folks mean when they say 180sx. If you are speaking of the USDM car, it's a 240sx. Regardless of the engine running it, modifications to it, badges on it's ass, it is and will always be a 240sx.

As Dousan pointed out, clarify using the chassis codes. Some further clarification:

USDM s13: 240sx fastback or coupe
JDM s13: 180sx (fastback) or Silvia (coupe). You probably know that the JDM models use an SR20DE or SR20DET engine rather than the KA24(D)E.

I'm going to disregard s14s as that doesn't seem to be the topic of conversation.

So, are you asking about a 240sx or a 180sx when you speak of taillights ('cause there is no 95-98 240sx fastback)?

---From here down refers to cars sold overseas ONLY---

From what I understand of your question, you are asking about the '95 to '98 fastbacks as the 180sx in Japan (actually '94-'98 iirc). If so, then yes they have a different bumper and different tail lights.

As far as the JDM engines go, the first ones weren't red or blacktops at all, they were CA18DETs. Then redtops. Did the 180sx ever get blacktops? I imagine so, but don't put too much emphasis on it.

**** dood, I'm tired and really have no idea what you're asking or what I'm answering. Good night sir.

And congrats, most folks by now would be cursing and calling us elitist bastards. You just might stick around here oK :-)

dorifto180sx - you got the '93 and '90 USDM middle letters mixed up; '89 - 90 (ka24E) was "H" and '91 - '94 were "M" so RHS and RMS 13. :)

And yes, to echo what everyone else has said, 180sx=/=240sx. DO NOT use 180sx unless you're referring to the 1989-1998 JDM R(P)S13. You'll make everyone's lives easier. :)

Hahahaha. Hey- i put a disclaimer on the "H" and "M"s and I had a feeling I was wrong. Either way, i never had an RMS13 or RHS13. Hehehe I had an R_S13 and more recently it is RPS13 (My car was soooo boro I had no engine when i got it, but it would have been RHS13 when it ran).

Now, misnomer:

From what I understand of your question, you are asking about the '95 to '98 fastbacks as the 180sx in Japan (actually '94-'98 iirc). If so, then yes they have a different bumper and different tail lights.

RS13's were made from '89-98 in JDM land.

89-90: same appearance as USDM but had amber/clear suared signals. Also had CA18DE or CA18DET

91-93: same appearance as USDM but with amber/clear rounded nose signals, and optional aero sideskirts and rear valence we did not get. Had red valve cover SR20DE and SR20DET.

94-96.5: same appearance as 91-93's but SR20DE(T) has a black valve cover to match the S14 that was introduced in 94. Top model is Type-X, I am unsure of other models other than Type-S (SR20DE)

96.5-98: New front bumper, tal lights, and wheels introduced. Optional Aero sideskirts are also different. 4 types are offered for kouki 180sx:
Type-S: no aero kit+SR20DE
Type-G: had aero kit+SR20DE
Type-R: no aero kit+SR20DET (yeah there WAS a 180sx Type-R... funny, huh.)
Type-X: had aero kit+SR20DET

All 96.5-98 had option of getting new aerokit regardless of trim package (we believe).

Now, some japanese terminology: zenki (89-90): means early, first model. Chuki (91-96.5): means middle, intermediate model. Kouki (96.5-98): means latest, last model.
Usage: Zenki 180sx, chuki 180sx, etc... (this is not limited to Nissans or S13s. S14's had 2 models: zenki and kouki (see definition) there was no middle model...)

Ok, now here is some visuals to understand exactry what just happened.

Zenki 180sx:
http://sr20.hybrids.jp/andy_c/180sx/images/180sx_61.jpg http://sr20.hybrids.jp/andy_c/180sx/images/180sx_62.jpg
Optional front lip and sideskirts equipped. Not sure if zenki's had rear aero peices.

Chuki 180sx:
http://sr20.hybrids.jp/andy_c/180sx/images/180sx_18.jpg http://sr20.hybrids.jp/andy_c/180sx/images/180sx_19.jpg
(this rare example is wearing the full optional aero package with optional aero zenki front lip.)

Kouki 180sx:
http://sr20.hybrids.jp/andy_c/180sx/images/180sx_26.jpg http://sr20.hybrids.jp/andy_c/180sx/images/180sx_27.jpg
Also wearing full optional aero kit.

Hope this clears up some stuff for everyone.

Thanks for clearing up the JDM models, Dorifto. I knew the general breakdown, but not the specifics, 'cause hell, I'll never own a 180sx :)

And lastly:
or how about CALL IT WHATEVER THE FOCK YOU WANT!!!

You can if you want, but don't complain when we don't know what the fock you're talking about :P

So if:

H: KA24E
M: KA24DE
P: SR20DE(T)

what is the letter for the CA18DE(T)?

CA=absence of a letter

So now we can't use RS13 as a generic term for hatchback since that means CA?

oh here we go again... :p

Maybe we should just use *S13 and R*S13?
