so here is the story, i live in NC and i was going on vacation to myrtle beach, SC. i leave my house and go about 120 miles, i look down and my temp gauge is reading a little high(more than halfway). so i talked to her and said don't do this to me. well about another couple of miles, it starts climbing. so i pull over and let it cool down. i do this about 3 times in about a 40 mile stretch. the last time i waited a good hour and 30 mins. before restarting. i roll on with the heat on full blast and finally get to my destination. i let it sit for 2 days and then i start trying to see what is wrong.

first i check the oil to make sure is doesn't look like milk, then i think to myself, thermostat. well i take the water neck off, and guess what, no thermostat. well i put on in it anyways and fill it up with coolant. we are starting the trip back home, and i don't even get 3 miles and it starts overheating again. so i park it and luckily someone with us had a truck. so i went and rented a u-haul trailer and took it home.

so today i tried again and noticed that the water neck was leaking, so i redone all of that and flushed the radiator. everything flows good no blockage. so i put everything back together and fill her up. well it sit for about 20 mins. idling and no overheating, as soon as i try to drive it, temp gauge goes up.

so now i am thinking water pump. can anyone shine some light on my dark day, cause i really need some help. thanks in advance.

cooling has always been a bitch for me. Check your coolant temp sensor too. I paid 15 bucks at kragen for mine. Still trying to fix everything though :/

did you bleed your radiator to rid of air properly

Usually when the water pump goes it will leak. Does the system build pressure? I'd double check to make sure all air is out of the system. Also good to replace the gauge cluster temp sensor if you never have.

well i will be honest with you i am pretty new to the 240. so where is the temp sensor at and how much does it cost. and yes there is pressure. as far as i can tell there is no leaks around the water pump

Factory Service Manual would serve you well. Get one at www.240SXTECHDVDS.org Home Page (http://WWW.240SXTECHDVDs.ORG)

it sits there and idles fine, but the minute i take off, the needle climbs. i stop and there is alot of pressure on the rad cap. i don't know maybe it will blow up so i can convince my wife on a SR20.....lol. no but serious i am bout to just take that shit apart and rebuild it. replace everything. if i can't get it in the next couple of days that is what i am going to do

I would first attempt to get air bubbles if any, out of the system like said above. Run the car with the rad cap off until all of the bubbles settle. Until it starts to come out the stop. also theres a bleeder screw on the intake manifold, right of the throttle body, and up a little. Its next to a gold label. unscrew when cold, release pressure in cap, get the car upright as much as possible on a hill and let the coolant sputter out. When its non consistently coming out, generally it will get the air bubbles out. It may take a few times. Coolant temp sensor is right of the throttle body and a little down. It has a red cover on it. its like 15 bucks at kragen, just dont over tighten, the one i bought snapped.haah. let me know what happens. Once again im still on the quest for not overheating. My issue is when it idles for like 10 min it goes up
