Ya so +2500 posts after joining I finially purchased a 240, well at least put the deposit down. If all goes well I'll have it on tuesdsay.

Its an '89 240SX hatchback SE, silver blue SlOwHC :) , 5 speed, blue fabric interior, seats are not as bad as some I have seen, its one owner and still has the stock radio in it.

Now I really feel for you people with that POS spoiler, mine is all wiggly and I want to take it off but the rust underneath it looks soo nasty, so I am wondering whats a better choice, getting a new hatch from the junkyards or just buying a wangan spoiler (bomex)?

Here are some pics, this is before they clean it up, its got a few dents and scuffs here and there, but nothing that bothers me too much.

WOW...it looks really nice!! front lip spoiler, clean and great condition interior, relatively low mileage, the engine bay looks pretty clean and the paint looks great too!!!. Looks a lot like mine, except in better condition...and running :p How much did you pay for it?

as for the spoiler. Don't rip it off until you have a replacement hatch, or new spoiler to cover up the holes. (unless the rust is really bad) Thats one of the first things I did, b/c I was worried about the rust. Now I have a frog that lives in there!! :p

niiiiiiiiiiiice! You got my favorite stock pignose fastback color. heh. I actually even like the blue interior (most don't I guess...)

Is that a real 75k miles, or was your odo replaced too? My car reads 84k, actual is ~140k...

The only problem with covering the hatch holes with a big spoiler is that it will eventually spread down other the corner and you'll have to replace the hatch anyway. A spoiler also probably won't stop water from leaking in.

I like the interior, before I went to see it I was thinking of changing the interior to black, but it looks fine the way it is. The interior is pretty clean for this old of a car, and on top of that they will be shampooing the interior before I get it

According to CarFax it is, Thanks goes out to CA18Guy for the report

From all this time being on the board I have learnt to keep my plans simple. So for this year I will be starting autocross, do some minor suspension (shocks, springs, sways and struts; wats with all the S's ) over the summer, then getting some snow tires for winter.

Then I'll start saving up for most likely an SR, I'll be able to ride this engine out for a while by the looks of it so I'm aiming for turbo mid to late summer 2004, then from there I don't really know.

Nothing will really change exterior wise, except the hatch and rims, and maybe a bomex spoiler

nice car! the interior is nice. i've seen much bluer (and uglier) than that. The cloth looks more grayish to me.....

WhiteNissan - It better come to my house with close to a full tank, but they guy we bought it from was cool, so a full tank minus the 75 mile drive to my house

jason - you'll get a ride, maybe if I learn to drive stick in time to go senior nite (if I go), I'll drive you after that

Ace - I need to start looking through the rule books so I don't get lost in STS, there was a link posted a while back with some of the classifications, anyone got it?

masta - haah yup, I was on here a couple months before I even got my liscence, so that explains most of it. Also don't become a post whore, or join more boards to spread your whoring around.

To the rest - thanks for all the comments and yes Zenki does own :D

The original bumper had a crack in it, it was actually only on the lip, not too sure why they replaced the entire thing, but the paint was little more scraped up too. They still had it over there so I saw it, but in person you don't really notice the difference, they had to tell me they replaced it.

I'll be on the lookout for you. Getting a used hatch should be your priority. Or I can teach you the wonders of Bondo :p
Since you have power locks I recommend an alarm- keyless entry, yO!
Have fun modding it!

ya finding that color will be definatle hard, I did a quick search on car-parts.com and most were red burgundy black. So most likely I will just get a cheap one and get it painted, the rust is worse than it is in the pics.

My first priority is learnign to drive stick :D, and being accustomed to the world of RWD.

I was surprised about the white engine bay too. It'll be a little cleaner when they finish cleaning it up, they are only going to be cleaning the bay itself not the engine.

While your lurking in the junkyards look for some stock 7 spoke rims for me.

I will be looking at keyless entry/alarms soon, or i'll just get a midget with a bat and stuff him in the hatch.

There will be an autocross in a couple weeks, so most likely I'll go stock (hopefully with a new hatch) and see if I will go straight to some cheap strut bars, or go for a little more oney and go for the sways.

It all depends on how I do at the event.

91CRXsiR - ya I am sure I'll have fun, but at least chances of snow are down to 1%, stupid weather is keeping that 1% up there, but now I just have to deal with the rain.

As the days go by I get more and more anxious to get it. You won't see me on here while I "bond" with the car, but will once I find something wrong, just hope I don't *knock on wood*

Now the car is in my possesion, just don't have the title yet. Runs great. The hatch problem is being sorted out soon. The guy we bought it from (it is basically a dealership) said that he will talk to some dealers in his area and try to find a hatch that is the same color and spoilerless. If he can't find the right color he will just get me a good deal on a hatch (what price range should I be looking at), and help me out finding a place to get it painted and such.

He also said that when he hit a bump that some noise came from the guages and the speedo stopped working, but cthen started working again. He says that it should be too hard to fix once the guages come out.
And also the driver side door does no unlcok by use of the key. The key turns, and the doors unlock if I use the passenger side keyhole. He told me all I need to do is to remove the door panel and tinker with whatever connects the lock and the keyhole.

Anyone have any diagrams of the door, need to know how many screws there are so when I remove it I know how many too remove and where to find em. He did tell me how to remove it though.

Otherwise it came all shampooed, and the seats/interior cleaner than it is in the pics on the first page. Also was waxed :D, but still came in an empty tank  . Also came with replaced brakes.

Also for anyone local who makes a trip to a junkyard soon, if possible could you get me a latch that connects the armrest, to the little compartment underneath it, mine is kinda stuck (but not connected), gonna try some grease first though.

More pics to come tomorrow after I try and fix the door.

Any tips on driving stick, learning slowly but surely.

Got her for $2500. I am getting better at stick just cruising around parking lot, but don't really have a teacher cuz my parents are busy with moving and such. Car still doesn't have insurance so don't really take it far, but I am just trying to to get my starting better.

Could you please elaborate on not holding in the clutch at stops. Do you mean at red lights. If so what do you do at lights, just leave it in neutral and shift into first when the light turns green? Or have I just completely misunderstood you?

Yeah, holding the clutch in wears on the throw out bearing.

Well, the bf and I are working on opening a dyno/performance shop right now--just doing the research and footwork before we find a building and start ordering machines/tools/etc.--so it's been taking quite a bit of conversation and internet research and phone calls the past two weeks. There were only 2 dynos in Tulsa until about 6 months ago, when one guy just got tired of doing it, and closed his dyno shop (even though he still builds engines) and sold the dyno to someone in Dallas. Now the only one left will only dyno GM vehicles, and he won't do ONLY dynos--you have to have him work on your car & the minimum price is $650. Plus, he's a total asshole. So, we're working on an excellent business here. I'll be keeping you all updated. I can't wait to get this going!! DynoJet--here we come!!!! :D

That's a pretty good deal for the miles, even with the blemishes it has. I know the feeling about having to teach yourself how to drive a stick--I had about 10 lessons in high school, then one day, about 3 years later, I was given a 5-speed to drive for a month. The starting is the hardest part to learn. Try to let the clutch out and push the gas in the same distance at the same time--if you start to bog, give it a bit more gas or push the clutch back in a bit. You're gonna lurch your car a lot while learning to go from a dead stop--I still do it occasionally.

You didn't misunderstand me at all. That's exactly what I meant. Keeping your clutch pushed in at stop lights/signs/traffic jams/etc wears out your throw-out bearing in your clutch mechanism. Keep the car in neutral, then shift when you're ready to go.

Another tip is, during traffic jams (or similar constant stop-and-go situations), don't shift into first and move forward unless you have enough time and enough room to completely let your clutch out and move at least 1 car length. If you keep inching forward, you will be slipping your clutch and wear out your clutch a lot quicker.

word.
I bought my car in FL and was driving it back to Missouri, and I got stuck in Atlanta right after a stupid Braves game, I had been driving stick for a few hours at that point, mostly interstate. I must have eaten away the whole clutch in ATL because now I cant even chirp the tires.:)

Actually I have 2 SOHC ones. They are totally worthless. Kid can have them both.

There are many lessons I can teach Kid:

Bullsh*t a**hole, nobody likes the tuna here.

What's the difference between the SOHC and DOHC gauge clusters?

DuffMan
04-26-2003, 12:23 AM
How can you not like tuna? It's like chicken but in fish form.

The main difference is the tach wont work and no CEL. Also SOHC speedos go 15,25,35, while DOHC is 10,20,30

We haven't finished moving yet. I'll be in the area for another week or so, I'm up for a few lessons.

I fixed the door lock thing, it was pretty simple, just take the door panel off, and reconnect one of the wires that connects the keylock to the door lock. It had just fallen out of its little clip, how? I really don't know, it doesn't budge anymore.

I will not be autocrossing till the insurance is on the car and till I have stick down.

All hatches were bad- aren't they all! Damn Nissan designers can't make a indented area on the middle lens to lift up the hatch- so everybody lifted the foam spoiler- damn you Nissan designers, DAMN YOU! just kidding.
haha, when I first tried to pop the trunk open I was like wtf? My mom tried to open it by the spoiler, and so did one of my friends, the left side of the spoiler is kind of off due to that, oh well.

The search for a silver hatch is not going well at all right now, so looks like I am going to have to go for any old color in good condition and get it painted. Anyone know any decent places, and how much am I looking at for getting that painted.

About the cluster, as of now I haven't noticed the problem yet, but I could use the cluster just incase it comes up again. And I will be needing the DOHC cluster some time next year.

What junkyards do you guys frequent?

Guys don't exactly give away what junkyards they frequent/what's in stock because the next morning the cars would be RAPED of all their parts. Just look in the yellow pages and go to the ones nearby and see what they have.

lol fine then, I see how it s :p

I'll find my own, and it'll have all this USDM goodness in it :D, and it'll be all mine.

Hope there are no junkyard divers where I am moving, that way it all be mine.

ROFL, man what an artist. LOL can't help but laugh, and yess USDM does own me.

Its the hinge that seems to be messed up, haven't had a chanche to try and grease it, and won't till I move, all that stuff is in storage right now. It might be screw hole on the armrest, not sure. Its just not connected but the screws are there, but the hinge doesn't move very well, or I am just incredibly weak :o .

I'll go check it out soon, would do it now but stupid apartment making m park in the visitors section  .

I got it to work now, just borrowed some grease from a friend works just fine now.

You got any extra passenger side mirrors, just the caseing, don't need the mirror or the motor, just need the cover, mines cracked and prevents the mirror from tilting in every direction.

EDIT: also do you have an extra driver side speaker grill, mine looks all nasty.

Does anyone know if you can fit 2 hatch's inside a fastback? If so I can get you a hatch (not silver tho) for $50.

I am about 90% sure you cant fit 1 hatch inside a hatchback.

I went to pick one up earlier this year and I took a bunch of measurements, and it wont fit in the area between the shock towers and the roof diagonally. but it does fit inside the back of my roomate's subaru outback if that helps any:)

If its got a wiper I can come and pick it up sometime in my minivan, if you wanna work something out. I am sure it'll fit, I'll even take the seats out, juss PM me if you wanna work something out.

EDIT: about fitting one in a hatch, if you took out your passenger seat would it fit, or is it too tall.

And are you sure you can't fit it in the back, if you fold down the back seats and angle it a bit, it has to be able to fit.

You would think so. I am pretty sure it will not fit. I am not 100% sure because I didn't try it, And you can grab a tape measure and see.

Here's a pic, it might help. as you can see with my car going "cruck" elcamino style, there is only about 12" of vertical space from where the speakers sit atop the strut towers and the roof. The hatch was something like 43-44"(I forget the exact measurements, but it was around there) and it has about a 2" lip on either side.

Now I made me decision on fitment with hatch that is attached to the car closed to about horizontal, because I would have to drive 2 hours home on the interstate. If you leave it all the way open and just go slow around town it *might* fit.

again, this is all just some quick measurements I took, if anyone has fit a hatch in their hatchback, correct me.

When you say 43"-44" is that left to right or front to back (as if it were on your car in that pic).

I am starting to kind of see why it might not fit, if anything it would be the hatch glass that gets in the way. Especially since the hatch goes a bit over the back seats (IIRC).

ok, It was 44" im pretty sure L->R and 12" between the tops of the shock towers to the roof. There was about a 1.5-2" lip on the hatch in reference to the hole it left. this gives you a usable square of 40"X12" to fit this hatch in. the Pythagorean therom gives us 41.76" diagonally in that hole. The hatch 44"(about)

since 44">42" it will not fit.

the slant under the shock towers makes there even less space below the shock towers.

Ya used about half a class periods worth of math, if you really wanted to get technical you could use cos, sin, and tan to find out the angle in whihc you put it in, but A) it doesn't fit, B) jamming it in instead of breaking out the protracter would be a lot easier.

Trial and Error is all I need (damn it, where is the thumbs up smilie  )

I'm just going to try it and see if it works. The problem is not so much getting the hatch to you, but getting it from the junkyard which isnt very close to here.
