Just in case anyone thought the DD is loud.... I got it down to near stock (at least, near my "stock" rusted muffler).

Some vids:
Unsilenced (http://www.engr.uconn.edu/~corrales/240/exhaust/exhaust001.avi)
Silenced (http://www.engr.uconn.edu/~corrales/240/exhaust/exhaust002.avi)

Basically what I did, was take the stock silencer and wrap it with steel wool, then used wire to tie it in place.

Works VERY well under load (i.e. when the car is moving). No more exhaust drone, and the car is once again louder from the intake than the exhaust. Should keep me from getting any tickets, I hope.

P.S. just ignore the blue smoke :p

lol you're right. fixed it now.

DD is great... especially when you can silence it to near stock sounding :D

Ok hope you can explain this to me.....

Suppose you have a 3" exhaust with 4.5" tip with a 2" silencer diameter...... if you put the silencer in, doesn't the whole benefit of the exhaust fly out the window? Since now you are still only pushing the exhaust out of a 2" hole... so basicly your whole exhaust behaves as 2" exhaust? Can someone explain me this?

You're pretty much right. What's the problem with it?

I get a stock sounding exhaust for daily driving, when I'm not driving agressively and I don't need too much power (with the turbo, it's hard to NOT have enough power, though). The exhaust flow is still a LOT better than stock, even with the silencers, so it's not like I'm losing more power than I started with.

Then, when I go race, I take the silencers out and romp around with the awesome sounds that are the Greddy DD and a TD05 turbo.

oh ok.... i was just wondering if what i was thinking was true. I mean there are less bends and those that are still there are mandrel bent, so it improves flow... but like by how much 2hp? i just know a couple kids from my school that bought exhausts, put the silencers on and NEVER take em out....

it's really gonna depend on if you're boosted or not. the difference in my car was very noticeable.
