View Full Version : No power to the spark plugs

Can't get my redtop sr to start. Everything fuel wise seems to be going correctly. And when I crank it it sounds good but it still won't turn. I looked to see if it was getting power to the spark plugs, and it isn't. I noticed that the 75a fuseable link was blown ( let my little brother jump my car when the battery was dead) and called the Nissan around here, and they told me that replacing it should get it to go. Just replaced it, I am now getting power to everything in the car as i wasn't before but, it still wont turn over. I know the injectors to the spark plugs are brand new so I do not think those could be bad. There aren't any hanging wires or any wires that are cut. Is it possibly the coil pack or the connections with the coil pack? Anyone else had the same problem?

The 75amp fuse will blow if you turn the starter over for extended periods of time, the system just gets overloaded and blows the fuse, or from slapping the jumper cables together.

A few questions:

1. Did the car run before?

2. Have you checked for spark on each cylinder?

Yea the car ran before. But when I got it the battery was basically dead so I had my brother jump the car for me, and he crossed the wires, thus overloading the system so the fuse broke. I thought this was the only problem and it was why I wasnt getting power to my cylinders. I just got the fuse today, popped it in, and it still wont go. I'm still not getting power to any of my cylinders.

so when cranking you arent getting fuel injector or coil pack firing? If not check all fuses, check ecu for codes. might have fried your ecu from crossing the polarity of the jumper cables...

Start here:

1. Check the grounds from the coil pack harness, they bolt up on the back runner of the intake manifold, should be easy to find. Clean them, check the wires, and reinstall.

2. After that check with a multimeter if you are getting 12v constant on your coil plugs, FYI on the coil plug one is a constant power, and one is a signal wire. (someone else chime in here I could be wrong on the voltage).

If you have no voltage then you fried some wires somewhere when your brother shorted out your car. The simple parts I would swap with a friend to try to hunt down the problem are, 1. switch out your ignitor, more then likely this got screwed in the crossing of the jumper cables, next is maybe somehow he blew all your coil's at the same time, which is highly unlikely but possible I guess.

so your not getting spark at any of your cylinders? start checking your volts in the electrical system. also did you check all of your fuses?

Thanks guys, i'll go look at all of this in a bit.
Hopefully that fuse blew in time to save my lines

Ok from the ECU I'm recieving a 21 (Ignition Signal). Since the sr20det is distributorless wth do I start with? Ignition coil and the camshaft positions sensor?

Check your ignitor.. if you can borrow another working ignitor, swap it out with it and see if that fixes it.. they can go bad.
