View Full Version : What Are Two Plugs Located at the Rear of SR

When I removed the flywheel, I found there are two plugs to the left of the rear S14 SR motor. Around these, I found wet oil spot, as well as few drips of fresh oil on top of the plugs.
I have drained the motor and placed it on a stand for over a month.
Here is the picture of the two plugs after I cleaned the oil off. Am I safe to leave it, or should I tighten them more?

Those plugs are the oil gallies for the oil filter and the oil squirter in the block. they are the main oiling system plugs. it is very rare for those to leak in my experience. they should be fairly tight. I would take them out clean the threads and check to see if there is any debry on the threads. you can put some teflon on them, but be very carefull not to let the teflon get ahead of the plug. the last thing you want is that getting into your oil spuirters or worse cloging any of the oil paths.

Any chance you would know the torque spec on these two plugs, because the only tool I see I could use is my alien tools. And I'm not sure if I want to use Teflon on oil related parts. :(
The oil squirter in the block you mean is it same as the oil strainer/pick-up?

oil squirter are bolted to the block inside before the crank and there is a nipple that squirts oil to the cylinder walls
Oil trainer/pick up is different part of the block
please pickup a FSM/ or alldata guides

Yea, I don't see other people have that leaking problem from those two plugs too, but I don't see what else could make such a wet oil spot around it. I just digg'd through the FSM couple times and I failed to find anything about it. :( I'm still not feeling cool to use alien tools and teflon on them...Anyone got more info of working on them?

Go buy some allen sockets from sears and put them on your torque wrench, at least then you know what you're torquing them too.

Those plugs shouldn't leak but if they are, just unscrew them and clean out the thread. Put a very light coat of thread sealant and reinstall.
