get a shop deck/blank to learn and and if you decide to stick with it, then move up to something more expensive.

if you are learning, probably not. Unless you weigh like 280lbs, then i'd say get a back up. If money is no issue, id say go with a chocolate board, probably one of the nicest boards i had.

if you can't do many tricks you probably won't go through a deck quickly unless you snap it trying something dumb

thats what i was thinking about getting, bomb wade desarmo board, but if I'm going to go through it quick then I'd rather start with a blank

when your stoping just try and not scrape your board too much cause thats how kids go through boards quick by stoping with their tails all the time

I haven't skateboarding since elementary school, but I agree with the shop board for learning, then getting something more substantial down the road.

use world industries
I've herd they are the BEST!

start out with a shop deck then when you get to an intermediate level try DLX boards (Real, Anti-Hero, Krooked). One of, if not the best board companies in the industry.

I've used Girl, Toy Machine, World Industries, Zero, and Blanks. My favorite would have to be blank decks just because they are priced so low and have good pop. ZERO and Toymachine are both very good decks, but have little concave in my opinion. Its harder to pop those suckers up really high like other boards. I rode the Mike Carroll GIRL board for a while too and I would have to say this was my favorite, but yet most pricey. Don't judge by picture, judge by concave, width, and price.

:bowrofl:

My first board was a powell blank. At least my first real board. Lord knows how many NASH boards I went through until I hit 11 and got something real. Powell blank, independent trucks and some super small spitfire wheels got me started. That setup was heavy as fuck.

My favorite setup was a Real deck, thunder trucks and some softer wheels. I loved to skate parks.

Any blank deck is great to start out on! Have fun!!

Active blanks are pretty sick, I like those decks.

Someone else already said it but start with a blank. I first started with a cheap big 5 board but just make sure the bearings spin freely and have a good amount of spin.

You shouldn't wear down your board that fast since you're new. Have fun and don't be afraid to take risk in skating, the falls will hurt a little but it's fun!

active blank = best
your going to break it sooner or later, don't spend any cash on " PRO " boards unless you get hooked up.

you can tell who actually " knows " about skating by what kind of decks they choose.

what size did you get?

try a bigger board like a 7.75 x 32ish or higher don't pass 8 tho because that shits HUUUGEE

get generic bearings

get generic wheels

as for trucks
all depends on how you like your ride, test ride your buddies boards and find out what trucks you like.

I prefer tensors/independents

black magic tape and make sure the worker doesn't bubble that shit or have them do it over again

random ass hardware

done deal

for beginners

not all the time. matters on the person. its mostly preference but people with bigger feet usually go for wider boards. :)

I would say Toy Machine.

I used to ride a lot.

23, Flip, Element, Toy machine, blanks, World Industries, Enjoi, Girl, Prime, Shortys...
Sometimes I liked the graphics, sometimes they were $5 pro boards from the Huntington park or whatever, sometimes I just wanted a blank.

I always rode independent trucks.
Whatever hardware.
Don't remember the bearings. generic ABEC 5 i think.
Spitfires or Ricta or blanks.
Whatever grip... I've tried so many.

is HOOK UPS a company again?
Do they make shoes again?

Anybody wants some VHS tapes? I've got a lot.

Lucky bearings were always my choice.

On the truck side I never liked Independent or Destructo, they were too heavy imo. I usually stuck with Venture trucks and never had problems.

HOOK-UPS still make decks but they don't make shoes anymore and they currently don't even have a team.

I rode GrindKing but only cause i worked for them. They were great trucks though , just not the "coolest" since grindking was kinda cheesy sometimes. Try their nutlocks...so dope.

So who is running it? Jeremy Klein? is he still on Birdhouse though?

Didn't Heath Kirchart go to Alien Workshop or something?

I try and check out mags here and there, but 'm so out of it these days.

spend the cake on a set of bone swiss bearings though. $45 and you'll never look back. they last a long time too.

and yeah heath went to AWS. he had the final part in their new video mindfield. very good part

yea man, i switched last year, always rocked black panthers and they got junked up so quick. my bone swiss ride as smooth as i the day i put em on.

thinkin about picking up some urethane wheels for my regular board. but i want to keep my normal wheels and bearings. and i really dont feel like dropping $100 on wheels and bearings im not gonna use to much.

I have that shirt, and still wear it regularly. lol

My favorite deck ever was made by Renaissance. I don't think they're still around, though.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I always found that the most important parts of my board setup were the trucks and bearings. The deck and the wheels always played second fiddle. I could skate any deck, but I was pretty picky about the trucks and bearings.

Favorite trucks: GK, Fury, and Destructo.
Favorite bearings: Swiss Bones ($$$) and Black Panthers.
Wheels: Spitfire.
Bushings: Red Doh Doh's.
Hardware: Shorty's Silverados.
Risers: Dook's shock pads.
Tape: Shorty's Magic Grip.
Deck: No matter, as long as its 7.5 - 7.75.

Shoes: eS Kostons. The OG K1s... Or, DVS Revivals.
Pants: Dickies or Dockers, either way.

I miss skating. Damn my fubar'd knees and ankles!

I had Arto's first deck with FLIP. The one with the Yeti. That was a cool ass deck.

The last board I ever bought was a Jerry Hsu Enjoi.

Dont buy anything based on price, model/pro-model, graphic, or what some "I know everything about skateboarding" has to say.

If you are serious about skateboarding you need to know a few things....

How tall are you ?
What size shoe do you wear ?
What do you weigh ?
Park or street skating ?

And there are a few other things to consider. But that is just for starters.

Personally for me I ride a 7.7~7.75 and nothing else. And I could not care less about the graphic. I like a board that has as close to an "a symetrical" shape as possible. If you look at alot of boards the tail is ALOT smaller and will tend to narrow before the tail starts. What this means is the tail is alot weaker than a board with a more symetrical shape.

As far as boards go, alot of companies buy their boards from the same manufacturer(i.e. real, anti hero = same, enjoy, element = same, ect...)

Now some companies I recomend that you can never go wrong with...
real
anti hero
aws
element
enjoy

So if you are still looking for some advice, here is my two cents....

Its funny you posted that, the enjoy is my current deck.

Its a lil small but its a good board with a good shape. I believe its a 7.65

Blank decks or local skate shop decks....no need for the fancy decks since they are gonna look like shit in a week
