im wondering if someone could give me a direct answer to the problem im having. i just finished building my sr with new pistons rods, seals and so forth basically everything but the head was touched. the car was beining to blow blue smoke more and more. i decided to do a quick rebuild on the t25, hoping to solve this problem. well, the car is still smoking and cant seem to understand why. iv search and everyone seems to have their own opinon on what it could be. i have no oil in the hot pipe, and plugs seemed to be fat which is lack of a fresh tune. could the turbo just be completly shot? or maybe something else? im 17 and look for advice from someone with more knowledge to lead me in the right direction.
thanks in advance-anthony

Could be the valve guides are worn in the cylinder head. Higher mileage SR's and KA's commonly have this problem, and you will gradually lose more oil through the guides as they get more worn. Best way to fix the problem is to go buy some new valve seals and some Jim wolf or supertech bronze valve guides. and have a machine shop instal them for you.

forgot to add that, they were replaced during the rebuild.

when does it smoke? like sitting at idle or under load?

it puffs out smoke when under a load. if i roll into boost and then come off it during deceleration its smokes a lot.

anything else i can test to give me some direction? i plan on doing a compression test tonight but is that really gonna tell me where im burning oil from?

If there's no oil in the hotpipe and none blowing through into the intake pipe, it's either valve seals or rings. There's no other way for oil to get into the cylinders if the turbo isn't leaking unless it's major blowby and you're plumbed back into the intake.

A leakdown will tell you which cylinder is the culprit, then it's up to you to determine what side by pulling the head. You can pour a little oil on top of the piston and let it pool up, if it's gone overnight there's your answer, it's the rings.

Remember, machine work is an art form, sometimes even the best guys make a slight error. Don't trust the work just because you feel confident in it, the slightest nick on a cylinder wall or an improperly seated ring can cause a leak.

thank you, just but before i do that, is there anyway way i can eliminate the turbo from the picture completely? in other words make sure its not just my turbo leaking? i know for a fact there is no oil in my hot pipe but is there a chane it can be blowing threw the exhaust side?

Not really easy to tell, oil in the downpipe could be from either the engine or the turbo, but pulling the turbo will yield a better visual at least. I'd do a leakdown first since that's easy to do, if all four cylinders are within spec then it's more than likely the turbo anyway.

Do a compression test since its easier to do but a leak down will answer your question more than anything else.
