No more s12 for you?

BALLINNNNNNN haha. Try checking some of the bmw forums and researching the common problems that model/year might have. Hit me up if you need anything!

One of my friends has owned a '05 6spd. for 3 years now. He absolutely loves it. He and I have had no problems installing exhaust, coilovers, wheels, etc. I know more about working on an E46 than a 240 because of it lol. He's always been able to get a hold of parts before me.

Have you tried Bimmer-forums?
Seemed pretty informative last I checked (when i was contemplating a E36 m3)

Here's their E46 M3 sub-forum link.

2001 - 2006 M3 (E46) - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=68)

Thanks for renewing my interest.

If you find a car with a 13 second quarter mile... 3400+lbs.. and a tapped out engine out of the box.. attractive then go for it...

I've never understood the lure of $1300 camshafts that add 15hp. I'd rather get a C5 vette. dollar for dollar it's a better car.

LOL don't hate man. M3's are cool; I like 'em.

OP, what's your budget? Going for a lower mileage one?

E36 and E46 have thin sheetmetal anchoring the subframes. If the car is drifted or tracked it could stress and tear the metal and the subframe can actually be ripped off the car. There was a factory recall about it from what I read. Check out bimmerforums or something like that.

I have done alot with the Euro cars - Specifically BMW
Please call me if i can help with anything.
Thanks,
Robert

As for the above issue with E36/46
The 95 and earlier ( OBD1 ) vehicles had this issue - 96+ it was corrected
with factory reinforcements. However Turner Motorsport makes additional DIY plates
that you can install.

I like bmw's.. My 1969 BMW 2002 alpina makes m3's looks stupid.. after 30 years of BMW engineering and they added 1500lbs.. and 150HP.. It's not really any faster.. kinda like that cute teenage hottie that the highschool jock married... after 40 years she's now a walking 300lb chain smoking ad for budlight. You would die if you put on as much weight as BMW has in 40 years.

why is the 93 and 98 so different while both being e36 chassis? Did they change materials or something? 400 lbs, damn

My good friend owns a 04" and he loves it to bits. I love the seat time that I've had in it as well. I've heard of a few problems though that you should check out on a few of the Bimmer forums.

The only thing that I don't like is you have to drop BIG dollars in order to go fast.

if you buy one, you make sure you have the bmw warranty still running or purchase a new warranty. if not, expect about 2k maintenance cost each time they open the hood for you. that engine is so tight that it requires a lot of labor just to get a faulty part that costs about 60 bux.

too bad those things called safety standards keep getting more and more strict, light weight cars are very difficult, if not impossible to create legally nowadays. miata, mini cooper, they all add weight to keepup with the safety requirements.

basically, if you want to sell a car thats safe and compliant.. build it out of lead with perforated crumple zone in the front... there ya go.

I personaly think the 07-08 350z with the new HR engines are very comparible to the performance of the e46. Plus for the price of a used m3 you could buy an almost new Z and keep it nissan :)

I am in a car club with an ever expanding group of bimmer owners. One of which has a black 95 m3, a black 97 m3, a black 325i, and an 07 735i. He has a black bmw problem. From my exposure to e36's the main things i have noticed about e36's are sub frame bushing are giving out around this time, and engine cooling problems (a lack of cooling), and just expensive repairs in general. Everytime the bimmer kids drive them someone breaks. They are good performing cars, when they work.

like someone else mentioned, for the money, i'd rather get a z06, be faster, with cheaper parts from napa, no worries about my vanos going out etc.
