hello guys, yesterday i went to a trackday and i was running my '93 240sx... and here is the problem

1 month ago i changed my oem radiator and my oem fan clutch to do an upgrade to the cooling system... the upgrade that i did it was a mishimoto aluminum radiator with mishimoto fan shroud w/ 10" e fans, also i bought some motul coolant and i mixed with destilled water, new oem Thermostat and when i finished i did a test drive and my temp gauge never marked a hot temp in my engine. and i supossed that everything was good.

the problem came when i was running at my local track, i was very confident with my new stuffs...so when i saw the temp gauge it was marking 1 line below and i stopped my car, i open my hood and the reservoir tank was taking out the coolant from the little hole that all the reservoir tanks have.i was very scared...so my question is what problem could i have with my cooling system?

btw all the time that i was running i turned on my fans with a manual switch and in about 15 minutes my temp gauge started to go up.

here is my engine bay:

Bleed the cooling system and go back to OEM fan and fan clutch.

+1 on above post.

Make sure you bleed the system properly or else you'll always have overheating problems.

Another thing, Mishimoto radiator caps are notorious for not keeping pressure.(IIRC).

Friend of mine had overheating issues with his KA.

Changed the radiator cap to a Nismo one, never had problems since.

^ +1 on Rad. Cap. I switched mine out immediately for a Nismo unit.

guys thanks for the advice of the radiator cap, i will change for an ARC unit. but i have found the problem. my fans are inverted.... i mean the polarity was inverted.

my fans sent the hot air from the engine bay to the radiator and when i was running i suposed that the radiator didn't cool the water fine because in the back of the radiator my fans pulled out the hot air from the engine bay and it was sending these hot air to the radiator.

thank you for your replys =D

I dont think that is going to make a difference. A fan pushing or pulling is not gonna fix this.

It will if he was supposed to have the fans as a puller and had it actually in pusher mode. No point in having the fan on when your car is running on the road.

The fact that it overheated while running tells me that its not a fan issue.

yes i refer to this, in daily drive my temp never goes up, it only happened yesterday when i was into the track.

well being that it was only yesterday that you found out you were overheating, did you actually find out that it was the fans was causing the overheating?

i supposed bro because their were pusing, but tomorrow i will change the polarity and i will advice you.

i will update and as well if someone could explain me the difference between the pushing and pulling on the fans i will be very glad =D

thanks :hs:

Could you shoot me a PM with more info on the rad cap issue? I would like to forward this along and see if we can improve our design if they really are having problems (it has not been brought to my attention before).

UPDATE: the overheating happened because the polarity was inverted and the e-fans was pushing the air, my radiator cap was good, i tested on the highway and this time was cool all the time !

i am happy with my 2 mishimoto prodcuts (tha radiator and the fan shroud) thank a lot bros

The fact that it overheated while running tells me that its not a fan issue.

Except that the car was moving forward, and the fan was trying to stop the natural air movement through the radiator core at speed by pushing forward against this air.

I can't believe you didn't notice that when you first installed everything...

If you really overheated at the track at WOT, there is a good chance your headgasket is toast now.

the first paragraph that you wrote, that's happened .

my temp gauge didn't touch the "H" line, it was 1 line before the "H" and i switched off my car when this happened.

actually my car don't smokes but could someone tell me if it possible that my headgasket is toasted and my car don't throw any smoke?

and what other kind of damage could it be happened whit this "a little overheating"?

BTW i don't know the meaning of "WOT", could someone explain me?

WOT = wide open throttle

My old s14's ka would overheat sometimes too, after I changed the thermostat to an oem Nissan one it went away....then overheated a few times afterwards and found out it was MASSIVE coolant burps when I opened the radiator cap and squezzed the top radiator hose:bite:

*If you look at your top Rad hose, it goes to the intake manifold.
In this manifold right by the outlet for pipe you will see a 10mm bolt head. remove this while filling your coolant. when you see it PISS out the top. replace the 10mm nut.
DONE> this is very important. so is having fans on proper.

I'd still rec that you go back to OEM EFAN for ac, and Clutch fan/Shroud. NOTHING BETTER!

Enjoy the track.

take off the hood when at the track. helps SOOOOO much.
