Advancing timing?

I say intake. If thats too expensive, just go for a k&n filter. That should add a little power. But i think it would just be better to save a little longer and get an intake.

Intake & CAE. You'll suffer for about a week or two (money-wise) but you'll forget all about it as soon as it's installed .

See, there is something cheaper than chicken-fried steak: chicken-fried-rice! Riceee, lots of rice!!!!

I would go with a k&n filtercharger kit (cone filter). They sound good, and really dressup the engine, not to mension the added hp and torque.

Or maybe nology hotwires. They will run you a little over $100, but do wounders on the high end. No other wire does what Nology does. Again they look good too. Especially where they ground themselves on your valve cover.

AJ

how much will those nology hotwire give u on a stock s14? est. anyone?

S13Grl
10-01-2001, 04:44 PM
3 HP at the most .

god.. i wish we got gains like z28's.. sniff... full exhaust,, 40+ hp... wow, i'd kill for 40 more horse!

misnomer
10-01-2001, 05:50 PM
Well, a z28 starts already at about 300hp, twice a stock 240sx. The best exhausts for ours net a bit over 10 hp. So, yer z28 is only getting twice the improvement over the 240sx.

As far as the steak goes, you will prolly get the same gains at a lower price if you just slap it on the bbq, instead of battering it up

Take out your spare tire and all other stuff from the trunk. Your car will feel just a bit quicker.
(I wouldn't do this unless if you have a cell phone or something incase you get a flat tire)

Has anyone put the 300zx TT fuel filter in there car because
I have and I thinks that it helps out in the upper RPM range and its $2 cheaper than the 240sx one.

LanceS13
10-01-2001, 11:19 PM
The 300ZX filter probably didn't help as much as the fact that you changed the filter...but hey, if you save two bucks, go for it.
I changed mine with the stock type not long after I got the car, and it climbed much better past 5500. My exhaust really helped my top end alot. Once I finish suspension, intake is next.

10-02-2001, 09:26 AM
hahah does anyone change anything without upgrading?
hellz no right?
friends dont let friends drive stock... us 240sx ppl are really crazy, we even upgrade our fuel filter.... i did it... well i dont know how it compared but i know the new fuel filter makes my car run better...

S13Grl
10-02-2001, 11:22 AM
I even upgrade in cleaning products!!! (just a girl...)

Re: Z28 thing... 4-cyls need back pressure, am i right? So... if you slap a big-ass exhaust on a big-ass 8-cyllinder car... it vil get very meny horsies. It's hard to please our babies... and ourselves at the same time.

Re: Steak, you cannot get any gains without rice. YOU NEED RICE. It don't matter if it's battered or not. IT MATTERS IF THERE'S RICE!!!

drifterx
10-02-2001, 01:30 PM

AJ,

It may only give 3-4 hp, but the increase in throttle at high revs is very noticeable. If you goal is high horsepower, any shop will tell you, real performance parts like wires will really come in handy, sometimes more so then exhausts and intakes.

If you can't burn that gas, what good is more air flow???

Archangel
10-02-2001, 10:35 PM
justinc, definately go for some wires, or even replace your vacuum hoses. If your 91 still has the original ones, replacing them will really make a difference in the feel and power. Replace your spark plugs too.

Actually, im pretty sure wires don't add any horsepower!
But replacing them with new stock ones or aftermarket ones allows your engine to use the power it already has. The same goes for vaccuum hoses and spark plugs.

have you tuned up your car recently? honestly, sometimes that's the best bang for your buck. especially on an older car. i have 4 other friends with S13's, and they all say a tune up(plugs, wires, oil,...) is what the car craves. i have an S14, and a tune up gave the car a lot of pep. i also used injector cleaners and junk like that.
just an idea

I can understand that. I've just had past war experiences and I feel bad enough for all the people who died because of a group of idiots, so I've decided to put up a flag. I also think this country is freaking awesome. But that's just me.

Stickers are the best paint scratch repair kit you can buy. I like getting ones that say clever things like "I'm tired of stupid people". As for s13girl's sticker with a product name on it, I personally say it's acceptable if you actually have the part. There's a nice dent in my fender that I'd love to cover up with a chrome emblem of sorts, but refuse to do so until I find the emblem for a part I either have, or would buy.

As for the flag thing, I've been flyin' one recently. The whole country really pulled together recently, donating more food and blood than could be used, and the money keeps flowing. Other countries are in trouble - we help. We're in trouble - we help ourselves. All in all, we're a #### good collection of people, and although I sort of just noticed that recently, it still inspired a burst of patriotism - so, yeah, I fly a flag too. =)

Maybe I'll cover that dent up in the fender with a flag. Hmm. A love for my country and a hate for body imperfections all in one. Hmmm...
