My new 240 has had the stock battery relocated to the back, battery tray and all with NO box. From my understanding, this is very unsafe as a conventional battery will release hydrogen gasses inside the driving compartment (since it's in the trunk) unless it is in a sealed box with a breather tube.

I visited a local shop today that specializes in battery's and was going to buy a marine box and run a tube from that through the outside of my car. However, the salesperson there advised me that this was a bad idea, and gave me 2 other options. The 1st option was to buy a conventional battery ($100 + tax) that was in some special case with 2-built in holes in the top that are designed for breather tubes. The 2nd option was to buy a special "AGM" battery that would cost $250. AGM's as I was told, do not emit any gasses as they are made up of one solid mass.

Is it safe to run a marine box and not have gasses releasing everywhere?

or..

Do I have to buy the battery mentioned in the 1st option?

Run a 0/1GA from Engine Bay to a Fuse to the trunk with a secure battery box so ACID don't eat shiet up in your trunk haha

well here is what i did, buy a really small battery from tirerack.com. we were originally going to do the marine box, but it was too much of a pain to mount the box in the back. the marine box WILL seal and shouldnt emit gasses but there will be a build up of gas in the box.

i got mine in the trunk, a lil bigger than the stock one so it gives it enough juice to run the long of a wire and start the car.. and i also went to autozone and grab a battery cover and drill a hole right on the side just for the hydrogen gasses or if in any case the battery over flow with acid for some reason.

then plug that hole with a hose and ran it just inside the passenger side panel and out thru the vent underneath the quarterpanel.

Get a sealed battery box and use the hose to vent out the car. Sales guy was trying to sell you crap. You still need a box for most tech inspections. May need a external cut off too.
