i took my stock shift knob off last night after around 10 minutes of twisting, i think i wasnt supposed to pull everything off... you see, when i pulled it off, the knob and this piece of metal came along with it, its black, is that really how it goes? because now, i have no idea how to put my aftermarket knob on, the only thing left right now on the shift assembly is a little rod with rubber around it, and i cant stick my knob on there..... any help please

You ARE talking about the pilot shortshifter correct?

your descriptions are quite vague...
Check the how to guides for the OBX install, and try and be a little more specific about what is there...

i looked at your how to guide, and on the 1st picture is what im talking about, the black piece of metal came off along with my stock knob, is that normal or can my knob twist off of that?

I think hes talking about changing the actual shift knob(getting a nismo shifknob etc), not putting a shortshifter in. The stock KNOB should screw off, and the metal piece should not have came out with it.

There is no metal peice no the stockie shift knob..unless he's talking about the thread ring coming out of the shiftnob itself? i.e. the shift knob breaking.

The stock knob just unsrews, leaving the threads still on the shifter.

Why don't you get a camera, take a picture of what the hell you're talking about, and either upload or scan it.

he's saying he BROKE THE SHIFT ROD ITSELF. the stock one is two pieces, just like the OBX (only the Nissan one uses better adhesive). you need to stick it back together with window urethane or some type of epoxy/jb weld.

I agree, I'm lost... I have seen a few shift knobs that have a few different black threaded tubes that come with the knob, that go inside the knob. Each tube has a different thread size to fit many different cars, and they just slide up in there. But if he is talking about the OEM shift knob, I'm guessing you broke something.;)

you'll probably need a vice or something to hold the #2 peice in while you take the knob off...
