DRIVE SHAFT VIBRATION

FYI: If vibration is present at high speed, inspect drive shaft runout first.

1. Raise rear wheels.
2. Measure drive shaft runout at indicated points by rotating final drive companion flange with hands.
RUNOUT LIMIT : 0.024" (0.6 mm)

Use DRIVE SHAFT RUNOUT MEASURING POINTS below for drive shaft runout measuring points.

3. If runout exceeds specifications, disconnect drive shaft at final drive shaft companion flange; then rotate companion flange 90, 180 or 270 degrees and reconnect drive shaft. Runout limit: 0.024" (0.6 mm)
4. Check runout again. If runout still exceeds specifications, replace drive shaft assembly.
5. Perform road test.


APPEARANCE CHECKING


Inspect drive shaft tube surface for dents or cracks. If damaged, replace drive shaft assembly.
If center bearing is noisy or damaged, replace it.

INSPECTION

FRONT AND REAR DRIVE SHAFT

1. Inspect drive shaft runout. If runout exceeds specifications, replace drive shaft assembly. Runout limit: 0.024" (0.6 mm).
2. Inspect journal axial play. If the play exceeds specifications, replace drive shaft assembly. Journal axial play: 0" (0 mm).
