Hey!

Ok... Let's get some "context" before I shout my question out. I am running a SR20DET at 9psi with a S15 turbo, stock mafs, stock injectors, stock manifold, 3" downpipe, 3" cat, 3" cat-back.

Now the Autometer EGT probe is located on the small part between the turbo and the downpipe. I know, I know, it is not in the hottest runner.

What I get as readings:
City: 800-1000 F
Highway: 1050-1250 F
Highway at WOT: 1350-1400 F

Autometer claims that placing the probe AFTER the turbo will bring the temperature down 200 F. Some people claim that the CAT will make the temperature go up! I've heard 1550 F is the top you can go with the SR20DET.

Now, considering all this, what would you think safe EGT readings would be?

I will go on a dyno soon...

But it's not really the point. I'm not wondering about power output or running rich/lean. I'm worried of a too high temperature that could cause damage to the engine or turbo.

What temperature would be destructive?
