im looking for a front mount intercooler for my 180sx sr20. I am having a hard time finding one for a 180 but keep finding them for a 240. will a 240 intercooler fit or will fabrication be needed?

s13 is 89-98 nissan 180sx or 89-93 nissan silvia, which is same as USA 89-94 240sx (fastback, coupe, convertible) and European 89-93 200sx.
if you buy a jdm brand intercooler, sometimes they are 180sx or s13 silvia specific. iirc, HKS sells a 180sx/silvia specific intercooler. the difference is probably piping routing or some other small differences due to popup vs fixed headlight parts.
so if you're looking for intercoolers for your 180sx, anything that is compatible for s13 should fit both popups and fixed housing headlights. unless the intercooler is marketed for either jdm 180sx or jdm silvia, then you'll have to get the 180sx version for your s13 with popups.

Good info.
To add, there are minor differences between the bumper and bumper support on US and Japanease/Euro cars due to US crash rating requirements.
Generally all FMIC kits are transferrable from one model to another. How much fabrication is needed depends on the manufacturer.
If you stay with the brand name that people have used in the past, you should be ok, and mod can be kept to a minimal.
If you use no-name brands that no one used before, you're on your own.
The other thing you said that no one addressed is you said you have an "SR20". The IC mounting may be the same, but some of the piping may be different between KA, SR, and RB. Check with the manufacturer. At worst you'll have to do your own piping.

i'm running blitz LM intercooler kit for s13. Blitz/HKS are the best next to ARC, then the vspl greddy kit (not the mspec/economy core one).
the difference is the design. ARC is known to be the best cooling design company in Japan and utilizes their own core design for their line of intercoolers/radiators. HKS/blitz uses tube and fin design while greddy vspl uses a supposedly less superior design of tube and fin than those two. greddy mspec core or whatever uses bar and plate design as i'm sure many ebay 400 kits do.
that is what i remember from 8 years ago, but i'm not sure much has changed except that there are lots of $400 lower quality kits out there that people buy over the more expensive jdm brands. but as always, more expensive doesn't necessarily mean better, but i doubt that the $400 kits are as good. they are probably just "good enough" for most people.
