Ka trouble. Knocking top end

Drove home from work yesterday, no problem.

Start my car this morning, horrible knocking sound from head

Crack open valve cover, no signs of foul play.

Started engine with valve cover removed, still no foul play, getting oil, just the same noise.

Heres what I know of the engine and what searching has told me the problem was, but isnt:

I removed chain guides when I got the engine.
Performance is as usual. No defect in starting, rpm, idle, rev, nothing.
Chain is tight and engine is in time.
Oil and pan are full and clean.



any ideas?

ROD KNOCK. its coming from ur bottom end TRUST. I had the same issue when i had my KA and i thought the same thinking it was my timing chain guide. You possibly could have spun a bearing.

The sound of the knock has no where else to go but up thats why ur hearing the sound like its coming from the head
